RiverClan RPG: Dried Up

Rules

• Anyone may join.
• Anyone outside of RiverClan must fill out a character form, but RiverClan members can just roleplay themselves without filling out a form.
•There is a maximum of one character per person.
• No god-modding or killing other members characters
• You must follow all Offical RPG rules and site rules
• Wait until your character is accepted before you start roleplaying (RiverClan members, please post to let me know if you're joining the rp, we'll start roleplaying when at least five people have joined).
• You cannot create a character with a high rank such as leader, deputy, or medicine cat, but you can roleplay as a senior warrior or lower rank.
• Have fun!

The Story

This greenleaf has been very hot and dry, and the river has been slowly lower. RiverClan cats have suspected that the heat was causing their main food source to dry up. One night the river suddenly dried up completely, and now RiverClan cats are forced to hunt in the forest in their territory. It has now been nearly half a moon since the river dried up, and it has rained several times, but the river has not returned. Now Streamstar suspects that something else has caused the river to dry up. She is leading a patrol upstream to investigate.

What the RiverClan leader does not know is that beavers have built a dam upstream, keeping water from flowing down into RiverClan territory. Its up to the patrol to find some way to destroy the dam and bring the water back.

Lynxfang sighed, sitting on his haunches. "Yes, dry as the desert. Fish are dead on the dry riverbed and we still can't figure out why it got so bad so quickly. Even in droughts close to this severity the river has always survived." Tail flicking with unease, the brown tom glared at the sky. "Maybe Starclan'll find it in them to give up some guidance."

"Flamepaw lets go back to camp. We can get a squirrel if we are lucky. But they are probably hiding." Raindrop sighed. We are not even in the patrol anyways. he thought.

"Of course, she will!" Pinewhisker replied spitefully. "It's a serious matter, so why wouldn't she?" She glanced over at the camp entrance and sighed. "I wish she would just tell us now, though."

Flamepaw nodded. "Yeah. I guess the fresh-kill pile is KIND OF big..." she mewed, but she doubted it. She followed Raindrop back to camp sadly. "Raindrop," Flamepaw mewed. "Do think the water will come back soon?"

~Pepperpaw is with Pearldust~

Pepperpaw looked up at his mentor. At 7 moons, he was inevitably small, though still smaller than average. "Is it all going to dry up?" he asked. Though he didn't admit it, it would be a relief for the little golden tabby; because of his size and youth, swimming was very difficult. But if the water was gone, there wouldn't be any fish either. Pepperpaw liked fish and he liked to hunt.

"The river's already all dried up," Pearldust replied, glancing down at Pepperpaw. "But the lake is still okay. For now at least. It's gone down a little, but it's still there. Fishing is a lot harder at the lake, but I'm going to teach you how." She led her apprentice through the reeds, deep in thought. The loss of the river has made everyone grumpy. Me included. Well, the least I can do is make sure Pepperpaw is still training well.

"If it rains. But that will take weeks maybe moons of rain." Raindrop replied.

Raindrop entered camp. A small bird dangled from his jaws.

Shellfur nodded but did not reply to Pinewhisker's comment. He really did hope the river would fill up again soon, it would not be the same if they could only fish at the lake. What if it gets worse? Will RiverClan be forced to leave? he wondered to himself, hoping it could never come to that.

Pepperpaw followed his mentor, trotting to catch up. The lake was deep for him so he doubted that even with his unusual skill he would be able to catch much. Since the water level dropped a little, it might be easier, but he prayed to StarClan for rain lest cats die of thirst... Pepperpaw saw the bright glimmer of the lake ahead. As he approached the shore, he saw that there was about a tail-length of mud and dirt where there would have been water before. He carefully placed a little paw on the mud, testing it. It was sticky and warm. Disgusting. Licking the mud off, he turned to Pearldust.

Sunbeam padded padded io to Streamstar, exhausted after a morning's fruitless hunting.
"Streamstar, we can't go on like this for much longer. " he meowed tiredly, "The elders and kits are weak, hungry, and thirsty, and leaf-fall is coming. We have to do something"

Pearldust scanned the bank up and down, and led Pepperpaw over the the shadow of the Twoleg dock. It would be cooler here, and they could blend into the reflection of the Twoleg structure. Otherwise, the sun would betray them and their shadows would fall across the water, scaring the other fish away. "Now, Pepperpaw. Since the lake is a lot wider and bigger than a river, most fish won't swim all the way up to the waterline. You have to be standing in the shallows." She demonstrated and padded into the cool water so it came halfway up her legs. "It's mostly the same from fishing in the river from here on, except that you might have to alter your technique a bit. Depends on yourself really. Just figure it out." Pearldust would usually give a more detailed explanation, but she was still feeling edgy and the heat wasn't helping much.

The gray figure of Torrentheart came racing up the bank, paws drenched in mud as he was coming back from an investigation. Giving himself a quick wash before padding into camp, Torrentheart darted for his leader and the few cats surrounding her. He nodded to Streamstar politely and cleared his throat. "Earlier, a little before Dawn, I went to investigate down the river to see if we would be lead to any clues involving why it's being dried up," he mewed, sitting down and getting comfortable as he told his story. With a smirk and his green eyes giving off a brief flare, he began the interesting part. "Well, I actually did find something... interesting. There is no drought causing the water to not come. It's something else blocking it, but it's a very long way down one end of the river and I didn't want to get in a fight since I was already a little fatigued when I arrived. Something big is holding back all the river water. It was brown, and it looked like it was made out of tons of trees piled on top of each other," he explained, trying his very hardest to recall what he had seen.

Pepperpaw looked up at his mentor, a little surprised when he didn't receive further instruction. He waded in carefully, trying to ignore his increasing heartbeat as the warm water grew deeper. He stifled his panic as he reached where Pearldust stood and the water came up to his shoulders. He realized he couldn't see the fish and keep his face dry at the same time, so he took a deep breath and lowered his head. There were minnows darting about his paws and one or two golden glints of sunfish. [idk how they actually fish though xD] Pepperpaw resurfaced for breath then looked again. He tried to catch a minnow but his paw dragged through the water and it scared the fish away. As he waited for them to return, he resurfaced and blinked water out of his eyes. This is harder than I thought. He dipped his face in the water again. A sunfish was swimming close to his right forepaw. He quickly slammed his left over it and, securing the fish with his mouth, surfaced, and looked at his mentor.

"Good job," Pearldust praised him. She still looked kind of distracted, like she couldn't keep her thoughts in one place. "You learn quickly. For your kind of technique, being able to breathe underwater for a longer period would be beneficial." The white she-cat gave Pepperpaw the usual approving smile, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. "Come on, catch a few more and we can go back to camp. I'm sure everyone will appreciate the extra fish."

Sunbeam was excited. "We should investigate! If we could unblock the brown thing, the river might come back!" he meowed. "What do you think?" He asked Streamstar and Torrentheart.

Pepperpaw nodded and used the same technique to fish some more. The first few tries yielded only a couple of minnows and small fish. He had tremendous luck once and caught a large catfish, but after that all he caught was a couple more minnows and a small frog. As the sun climbed toward its highest, Pepperpaw was having less luck. More and more often he surfaced with jaws empty, and the heat was starting to distract him. "Sorry," he mewed miserably. "I can't seen to catch much..."

Dreamwhisker lays in a patch of sun near the camp entrance. She lay thinking over hunting techniques in her head. She closes her eyes and drifts off into a nice nap

Pinewhisker stared wide-eyed at Torrentheart. Something blocking the river? That has never happened before. There's probably nothing doing it. A ton of tree probably just fell on top of each other. The she-cat's fur grew hot, even if no one could read it mind. It seemed like a coincidence if they did fall in the same spot.She began to puzzle over what had done it.

This was very important news Torrentheart had brought them. If something's blocking the river, then maybe we can unblock it! It was very strange that trees had piled up on eachother in the same spot. "We'll send a patrol upstream to investage." Streamstar meowed, "They'll see if they can figure out any way to move the trees, or what caused the trees to block to river, or anything else they're able to find out. They'll be tired though, once they reach there, so we'll send a patrol after them, moving much slower to conserve their energy. The first patrol will report what they found, and the second patrol will do whatever they can to unblock the river."

"That's a good idea. We just need to choose the cats for the patrols," Torrentheart meowed quickly. "I could lead one of them. Perhaps Sunbeam could lead the other." He looked at the large golden tom for a second and then looked back at Streamstar.

"Streamstar, If you don't mind, I'd like to go on the second partrol." Dreamwhisker says pacing in front of Streamstar. Pausing for a moment looking around, seeing if anyone objected to her going.

"I would like to go on the second patrol as well, Streamstar!" Radioactive called, stepping forward beside Dreamwhisker, also looking around at the small crowd, her eyes scanning for anyone to object her going as well. Her tail lashed in nervous-excitement, 'It's time to put an end to this nonsense! Nobody can mess with Riverclan!'
