Talonkit snorted, and placed his large, dark head on his large, dark paws (pun intended). A misunderstood tear ran down his furry, cold cheek as his eyelid flowed down his eye like a river, allowing his vision to be encased in black. What was so wrong with having something wrong with your eyes?
Obviously a lot, Talonkit thought bitterly. He drifted into a restless sleep and his sadness and anger seemed to be encouraged more. He was in a dark, deep forest. His brothers, sisters, and mother sat far away from him, laughing and shaking their heads disapprovingly. He got to his paws and growled like a lion, and pounced on them. Cold blood trickled along his paws. He looked at them in horror, and backed up as his bloody, limp family lay with eyes wide open. He ran away from his fears, getting farther and farther away.
Talonkit jolted awake to acrid cold. He shivered as the icy hand of the wind went palm-down along his spine. He was in a pine forest, with nothing around him. His moss nest lay, torn and tormented, below him. He yowled in fear. He was in the middle of the forest. Had his sisters and brothers that are apprentices and warriors dragged him here?
"Talonkit!" screeched a voice. He recognized the warm, silky voice that flowed like a stream of warm milk. "Lizardstream!" he squealed pitifully in recall. The dark brown tabby appeared with a horrified expression to the left of the poor, scrawny kit. "Talonkit, are you okay?" she purred, licking the top of his head.
Lizardstream was a queen of ShadowClan, and mostly Talonkit's second mother. No, make that first mother. While his own family ridiculed him, Lizardstream accepted him. She nuzzled him with a warm, soft muzzle and purred. "Ugh! Your brother Phoenixpaw is so-" Lizardstream faltered, and drew back, closing her eyes tightly. Talonkit's tiny heart sank. He frowned. Phoenixpaw? As far as Talonkit knew, Phoenixpaw was his only sibling that accepted him as an equal. Did Phoenixpaw place him in the middle of ShadowClan territory like that?
Lizardstream growled in fury and shook her head vigorously. "I'm sorry," she mewed in a hushed, cold voice. "Just because one of your eyes are fully white and your other eye looks all cloudy..." she muttered. She looked back at the kit with the loving eyes Talonkit hoped for, grabbed him by the scruff, and whisked him off to camp.
Taloneye tensed as his muscles rippled through his large body. You got this, he sighed inside. Come on, Taloneye! I have to do this. To prove I'm not just a blank-eyed monster! He yowled a battle call and leaped, landing on a gigantic hawk. As it flailed, Taloneye drew back his powerful jaws and lashed, grabbing it by the neck. It was stunned, and with a single claw-strike it fell limp. Taloneye jumped off its back as it fell. The hawk was wounded before from Phoenixtail and his party, but Taloneye was determined to finish it off.
As he hauled the hawk over, Taloneye was alert. His leader and father, Adderstar, said that he scented RiverClan a little bit ago. Of course, Adderstar would be humiliated and furious if Taloneye chased off RiverClan, though, so he would try to avoid the direction of the scent. He padded along, wincing slightly as his paws hit he thorns. His milky eye twitched as it was exposed to pine pollen.
Taloneye finally dropped the kill in the pile triumphantly, his frown fading as an angry face came inching toward him. The long, dark fur of his leader hovered over him. Taloneye slightly drew back, enveloped in the shadow of the challenging leader. "What is this?" he spat, gesturing with his tail to the hawk.
Taloneye eyed the ground, his glassy eye glued to a spot. "It's fresh-kill; I caught it myself," he mumbled, loud enough for the leader to hear. Adderstar scowled with a dishonored yelp, and swiped Taloneye across his muzzle. "You are not aloud to hunt what Phoenixtail already injured! That means it was already half dead!" he hissed, lunging in. Blood poured through Taloneye's muzzle as he heard some other cats laughing their tails off. Taloneye pressed a paw on his muzzle, and examined his blood. He snarled at the glimmering blood, and turned to his leader, still snarling. He roared and pounced, pinning down his leader.
With a horrific lunge of his massive jaws, the dark brown tom gripped onto his father's fur and left him with wounds. Adderstar screamed. Taloneye drew back and looked into the eyes of his father. He did not mean to hurt him too bad, but he was just stating his point. Some warriors snarled and circled Taloneye. Adderstar struggled to rise, but feel to his side. Taloneye looked at his paws. I'm a monster... she thought in shame. He looked around with a stern look. His eyes glued to a figure near the shadowy nursery, though. Liazrdstream cautiously stepped forward, a horrified look on her fresh face. Taloneye softened and stalked out of camp, fighting back tears as he heard the pathetic whimpers of Adderstar. Even Taloneye knew that this was Adderstar's last life. Phoenixtail would be leader soon.
Later on when Taloneye's paws hurt, he collapsed in the blistering heat that streamed through the pines. He blacked out with a whimper. When he woke up, the sun pierced and stung his eyes. He patted at the sky as if to push away his troubles. He rolled over onto his paws and leaped to them. Yawning, he was irritated by the ashy wind as it clung to his fur. His eyes widened. Ashy wind?! He whipped around and his eyes clouded with confusion. Red flames lapped at the wind at the top of a pine tree. The flames ran down the trunk until the tree could stand it no more. The tree fell in Taloneye's direction.
Taloneye tried to lunge for the other side, but mid-roll the tree landed and crushed his rear right leg. Taloneye screamed. The wind joined in with the brown tom's screams as the tune of the music. Taloneye struggled to pull his leg out of the heap, but it was beyond most of his power. He whimpered and cried as he tugged out his leg until he was drained by fatigue and lack of strength. He collapsed. The flames reached at his fur and was almost successful. The tree was breaking down on top of Taloneye. Taloneye waited for his defeat. He lay still as stone, waiting.
To Taloneye's surprise, he woke up in a twoleg garden. A small gray she-cat leaned over him. She gasped when his eyelids fluttered open and hopped onto the fence. Taloneye lifted his head and peered at the cat, who was craning her head to examine the tom.
