Lightningstorm's 100 One Shot Entries

THE CAT WITH STRANGE EYES.

A lithe black she-cat grunted on pain as a bundle arrived. The fruit of her effort. The only fruit. She fixed her chocolate brown gaze on the massive black scrap of fur next to her, nursing peacefully after a rich oak brown tom licked the kit roughly to life. "You did well, Shadowleaf. It's a healthy tom." The brown tom purred, amber eyes sparkling with happiness. The queen knew the medicine cat loved seeing new life. It intrigued him almost as much as he herbs he sorted and collected daily. "Thanks you for your help, Oakpath. Where is Wolfbite?" The pretty she-cat mewed softly, her exhaustion showing in her melodic voice. "I want his help in naming our son." She smiled softly at the thought of her mate. Before the medicine cat could utter an answer, a bulky, muscular, handsome tom entered the den. His fur was medium in length and naturally had a slight curl to it, making the sleek locks looking alluringly messy. Those eyes of his were most startling though. One was a silvery gray-blue. The other being a brilliant and shocking yellow. Pride filled those stunning bi-colored pools. "My son! He has your good looks, honey." he winked at Shadowleaf in his usual flirtatious way. That earned him a purr and roll of the eyes. "What should we name our baby, dear?" She asked. They looked at their kit calculatingly for a long while then looked back at each other. "Phantomkit." The two announced at the same time.


The big Phantomkit worried his parents. He took longer that usual to open his eyes. But, once he did, every cat was in awe. The were wide orbs of blue-silver, ringed in a warm chocolate brown. There were also wisps of yellow twining through the silver. This gave his eyes the effect of seemingly glowing. It was a chilling sight, really. Those eyes were just as stunning as his beautiful face and body. He steadily grew into that of an apprentice and was renamed Phantompaw. All of RiverClan soon found that he didn't talk much and was just as mysterious as those eyes of his. The large black, shadow of a tom kept to himself mostly and was rarely angered. The only three cats he spoke to were his parents and mentor. The deputy, Diretooth, was assigned as his mentor.

On the first day of training, Phantompaw surprised Diretooth with his great intelligence and observance. His social skills needed work though. Not talking much made him rebellious and he often got into trouble for sneaking off while on patrol to go who knows where and skipping training. The tom was a well-known rebel and the she-cats loved it! They followed him around like lost puppies, but he always managed to shake them off with ease. Where did he go? To spy on a group of rogues. He had been on a patrol alone a moon back and overheard the rogues plotting to attack RiverClan. This didn't surprise the young apprentice. RiverClan's current leader had been terrible to the rogues and had them killed on the spot once caught near the borders. Lionstar was a ruthless cat and very vengeful. He was also a blood thirsty fool who was arrogent and head strong. Every cat knew he abused his sweet mate, Sunberry along with their kits, Lizardkit, Wildkit, and Pikekit. No help came to them for fear of their own lives though. Lionstat's wrath was not something you lived through. Not for long anyway. Phantompaw didn't blame the rogues for wanting revenge, but the rest of the Clan was innocent! Something had to be done.

Soon after Phantompaw started planning on stopping the rogues. He didn't know how, but he would. Without his Clan knowing. Why? It was in his nature to be secretive. But, he was made a warrior right before he planned to put his strategy to work. His warrior name suited and pleased him. It was a sad thought to think he wouldn't be able to keep it long. Oh how the yoing cat had yearned for a warrior name! And now, he had to get rid of it riht after recieving it! But it was for the Clan. He tried to keep that in mind. Phantompaw wouldn't allow his innocent Clan die for what their foolish leader had done! He was now a warrior. He was Phantomsecret. Yes. A very mysterious and odd name for a very odd and mysterious cat. After being named, Phantomsecret announced something that would forever change his life. "I am sorry. But I have decided to leave the Clan to be a loner." With that, he left; ignoring the calls after him and hisses. Continuing on known as Ghost, he made himself well known to best rogue groups. Especially those who planned on attacking the Clans. His name was Ghost because no cat ever saw him. Not even when he attacked. Just a streak of black could be seen. The group he had first been after was left for last. Once finished with his dirty deeds, he returned to the Clans to find his parents dead along with his mentor and leader. A cruel ex-rogue lead. His name was Grimstar. Ghost set to work at once on defeating his new enemy. However, this tom was sneakier than Ghost and gaunt him unexpectedly with every blow. When Ghost was on the brink of dying from his deep wounds, a small white she-cat appeared, swiftly finishing Grimstar off. Her name was Ice. She became RiverClan's leader and Ghost's mate. Ghost renamed himself Phantomsecret once more. And the cat with strange eyes and an even stranger personality was happy and successful. His name was well known long after he had died. Those who knew his story spread it like wildfire, no matter the Clan. The story of a hero continues on even today. The life of a cat with strange eyes is indeed a relished tale in he Elder's den and Nursery. It will live on; forever a legacy.
