Here is my entry for the Kit Challenge. Enjoy!
- Day One:
- There was a loud yowl from my mother and scratching noise coming from far away. It was almost like a cat scratching on wood. The twolegs were saying something in their normal twoleg language as I emerged. There was more heavy breathing, then another yowl. I felt one of the twolegs pick me up, its paws squishy and soft then another twoleg saying something. From its voice, it sounded as though it was worried. The one holding me (Or the one next to me. I couldn't tell.) cut open my sack, allowing me to take my first breath of air. I inhaled, feeling my lungs expand, then exhaled. In, out. In, out. In, out. In, out. I let out a small squeak, kept breathing, then felt something run along my back, repetitively. The twoleg made a cooing sound, kinda like, "Oocoocooboocoocoo." I squealed, starting to feel hungry, but they wouldn't put me down until I squealed again. I felt more fur beside me and heard a small squeak as the twoleg put me down. I squealed multiple times, squirming, until I thought that I was getting closer to mother's heavy breathing. A felt a drop as I reached an edge, then mother picked me up by my scruff and put me close to her stomach where I squirmed forward, getting closer and closer until I reached her and began to suckle. A younger twoleg make a high pitched squealing sound. I squealed in protest, hoping to make it stop, then continued suckling. "One male and one female," another twoleg spoke. "The male is a brown tabby. The female is a black cat. I guess Lizzy is a mother, but who's the father?" "That will remain a mystery, but let's name them... Thorn and Rose," the younger one spoke. My mother then spoke, "Thorn and Rose. The housefolk always give good names... You'll meet your father soon." I snuggled next to Momma, her warm fur was soft and comforting, and it didn't take long before I drifted to sleep.
- Day Two:
- It didn't take long for me to open my eyes, for When I awoke, they were open. Everything was blurry, but slowly became clear. The housefolk had moved into a room with padded seats and a magic cube that kept changing scenes. I saw the younger housefolk look up and squeal, "Mommy! Daddy! They're awake!" I turned to my brother, a taller brown tabby with green eyes, then looked at Momma, a large, fluffy white she-cat with yellow eyes. Momma stared at Thorn and me then purred, "Well, look who woke up! I'm Lizzy, your mother. Those are the housefolk. You two are named Thorn and Rose. That stuff on the floor is called carpet. Those padded things are chairs. This is a bed. Beds are what we sleep on. The thing that covers our heads is called a ceiling. The clear things are called windows. That mushy stuff is food. You won't eat any until you're able to. We won't go outside to see your father yet, but when we do, you'll have so much fun." The housefolk started to surround us and the younger one picked me up and started to move away from Momma, with me in its grasp. I squealed, "Momma! Momma! Tell it to let me go Momma! Momma!" I started to struggle, but the it broke into a run. It took me into a pink room and set me down on a soft, cushioned surface. Another one of the housefolk came in. It was the same size as the one that brought me in and looked the exact same. It brought Thorn and Momma in, too. They pulled out two black and white pieces of cloth and put them on Thorn, followed by something that covered his hind paws. Next, they pulled out a black piece of cloth and put it on Momma, followed by black things to go on her hind paws. Finally, it was my turn and it was horrible. First, they pulled out a pink cloth to put on me, then brushed down my fur, placing a silky cloth on my head. Next, they smeared creamy red stuff on my lips and applied powdery pink stuff under my eyes. I pulled back when they brought out another piece of cloth and tried to tie it around my body. The bigger housefolk walked in and pulled everything off of me, Momma, and Thorn. "No dressing the cats up! They don't like it!" Momma, Thorn, and I were taken to a soft padding that Momma called a bed. I started to suckle once more, taking naps until the housefolk went away and it was getting dark outside. I snuggled up next to Thorn and Momma and fell into a deep sleep.
- Day Three:
- My dreams were troubled. I heard yowls of pain and screeches of horror. I tried to find out where they came from, but everything was black. I saw stains of red when I tried to run. That was when I awoke. Momma and Thorn awoke after me. I stared at the door. "Momma, can we go outside?" I asked and Momma nodded. We padded towards a wooden wall where a white plastic flap hung. We walked outside. It was amazing! There was green stuff, like carpet but not, on the ground. When I looked up, I saw an endless blue thing with puffy white things floating in it. I stared around me. There were tall, wooden white things surrounding us and outside of those were tall, brown, things made of wood that had green things on top of them. There was a gray thing with water in it in the yard where blue, red, yellow, brown, black, and white feathered things played. "The carpet type green stuff," Momma told us. "Is grass. Above us is the sky. Those puffy white things in the sky are called clouds. The tall, white things are called fences. The things on the other side of the fence are called trees, but those particular trees is where I met your father. That is the forest. See the endless green grass over there?" She pointed to what looked like an endless stretch of green sky. "Those are hills, moors, ect. That's where your father lives. One of you will go with him one day. The green things on the trees are called leaves. The gray thing over there," she turned and pointed to the hard structure in the middle of the fenced in area. "Is a bird bath. The feathered things are called birds. The fenced in area here is called a yard." I stared around the 'yard' and started chasing a bird. It flew away and a big shadow made me cold. I stared into the air and down swooped a large bird. It's feet were huge and it had a very pointy mouth. "Momma!" I wailed. "Momma, help! Momma!" I was grabbed by the giant bird and was lifted into the air. "Help!" I saw a brown tabby, which looked almost exactly like Thorn, except it had yellow eyes leap over the fence.
"Hawkflight, save her!" Momma yowled. The cat Momma called Hawkflight tried to leap and grab the giant bird, but it was too high and Hawkflight fell to the ground. "Help! Help!" I was above the clouds when the giant bird started to fly above the forest. On the ground, I saw the small, brown tabby shape of Hawkflight chasing after us. It wasn't long before he disappeared into the thick trees of the forest and the giant bird came to a stop, lowering itself until it reached a tall tree. At the very top, a large bed of sticks sat. Small, dead, featherless birds lay around it. I stared in horror when it stared at me. I could imagine myself being swallowed by the ginormous bird, but it just piled a few feathers in a small area and gave me a rabbit from a storage area below the nest. I tried to bite into the rabbit, but it was a bit hard to rip off the piece.
It started to talk, "Are you okay? Do you need milk?"
"How can you talk?" I asked. "You're a bird!"
"Midnight, a badger, taught my ancestors how to speak many languages," the giant bird spoke. "I am the last of my family since my babies died. Also, I am Daylight, an eagle."
"Hi... Daylight. Why did you take me from my Momma?" I started to panic.
"I'm sorry. I just... Get lonely up here," Daylight sounded really sad.
"Oh. I... I guess I could stay for a while. Momma won't be upset... I don't think. And, can I have some milk? Or maybe something a bit softer?" I asked, smiling.
Daylight, disappeared, then reappeared with a plump mouse. It was a tad bit squishy, but I bit into it and forced it down. It wasn't as good as milk, but it was okay. "Daylight?" I asked.
"Yes, Dear?"
"What color are my eyes?"
Daylight turned to look at me, then nodded, "Green, Darling."
I smiled and heard a loud screech. An eagle, much larger than Daylight, landed in the nest. "This is Strong Wind," Daylight told me. "He's my mate. I taught him the languages that I know, too. Strong Wind, say hello to Black Rose."
"Um, actually my name is Rose," I told him.
"Hello, Rose. I am Strong Wind. We'll protect you, just go to sleep," Strong Wind pointed to the sun that was falling from the sky. It was getting darker, so I snuggled up under Daylight's wing, on the pile of feathers, and fell asleep.
