Shattered Hope: Sequel to LAD

The Life-Givers leader is dead. The group is in chaos, each blaming another for their failure in the battle. They are breaking up, each day heralding another empty room, another person's belongings missing. People are leaving, hoping to find a way to exact revenge on the Death-Bringers, to hide from the devastating aftermath of the battle, or simply to escape from the furious accusations hurled from person to person. But still some people remain in their stronghold.

The Death-Bringers are victorious in the battle. Few had died, and almost none of the injuries were fatal. The future seemed bright for the chaos-makers. But barely two days had passed since the war when their scouts got wind of strangers knocking on the Life-Givers' fortress's door. They all wore steel gray cloaks, armed with longbows and knives. Wolves accompanied them, a couple falcons perching on their shoulders. They were dangerous. Strange. Mysterious.

The Hunters tell the Life-Givers that they come from a far land. They had traveled far and wide, and their only response to their questions were that they had to leave their home land. Hoping the Hunters would provide the remaining Life-Givers a way to get their revenge, they offered to provide room and board for the weary travelers for as long as they wished. It as accepted. The longer the Life-Givers stayed around the Hunters, the more they could see the strange differences between the two groups. After all, every Hunter was immortal.

Sardonic and cynical, he has a deep vein of dry humor in him despite his outward appearance of seriousness and dangerousness. Around mid-twenties in age.

Other: The sword Sala had used was actually Cadence's. It is one of the most valuable swords in the world, made with the best material. Cadence had been in the Life-Bringer's group a decade or so before, but she left mysteriously to join the Hunters. She had accidentally left her precious sword behind, and Sala had taken it up for her own.

Madison looked out the peephole in her room. She wasn't sure what, but she knew she heard something going on in the hall.

(The Death-bringers.)

Tom Shadow couldn't sleep. Recently he had been trying to figure out what the enemy would do. He was almost certain that they would try to get revenge, especially with thief allies, the Hunters. He decided to go for a walk down the corridors of the fortress. After wandering in the fortress for several weeks he knew them like the back of his hand. He strolled down a passage, walking past some death-bringers' rooms. He decided he wanted some fresh air, so he began to make his way to the wall. He adjusted his bow, which wasn't strung, and wondered if he should string it. He brushed a side the notion. He was in his own fortress it was the middle of the night. He had nothing to worry about.

Halt made a slight tsk tsk noise, and took Baylee's hand, leading her downstairs. The stone tiles were cold on his bare feet, jerking him wide awake. Much to his suprise, Lucfier was waiting for him, his muscles as tense as steel wire. The panther growled almost pleadingly as he padded heavily over to Halt. A moment later, a dog's frenzied barking echoed through the fortress. "The animals are edgy," Halt muttered, his long fingers stroking Lucifer's head. He tried to send the panther outside to check if anything seemed out of the ordinary, but Lucifer balked, refusing to take a single pawstep outside. Halt knew it couldn't be because it was pouring outside. Lucifer didn't give a fig about whether he got wet. Glancing up at the sound of footsteps, Halt waved Tom back. "Better not go outside. Something's wrong, because Lucifer won't budge." He reluctantly closed the doors and locked it again.

Madison heard the Fortress doors close, she walked downstairs and saw Halt by the door "What's wrong, Halt? Who was outside?" she asked him with interest, she was a little unsettled that night and Thorn wouldn't leave the door. "Thorn wouldn't let me out of my room, he's just sitting at my door as if he thinks someone is going to hurt me." she informed the leader, without the quivering voice she talked to him before the battle, this voice was firm, but sweet, how she felt around Titus.

~scrap the plan I said earlier what if we chased the DBs out with smoke bombs so they can fall into our traps and get attacked?

Ryder frowned. "They aren't coming out," she muttered, frustrated. "I'm worried that Riley will be trapped in there.. I just heard it lock." She adjusted her belt filled with supplies.

~Make them thhink it was a fire or something? :O Sure.~

Cadence frowned, her body shielded by the stone as she glanced out. Why weren't the little death-inflicting idiots out yet? She rested her bow against the wall, signaling Majesty to land beside her.

Halt shrugged. "I can't be sure. Who knows? It'll probably be suicide if we go out in that pouring rain. Visibility is poor enough without water blurring our eyes. Best to wait until morning. Alright? Don't go outside unless there's an emergency, and always alert me first!"

Ryder hissed, pulling out a packet of smoke bombs. "It'll be like chasing out rats," she muttered.

She ran to the fortress, slipping the little balls through mail slots or pipes. She scurried back to the shadows, waiting for them the beads to burst.

What's going on?" tom asked, to nobody in particular. He then overheard Halt saying no one was to go out side.
"Oh well. I'll get some fresh air in the morning."
Tom headed back towards his room, disappointed. He hung up his long bow, though kept his knife on his belt. He lay down on his bed, and instantly fell asleep.

A sudden, muffled boom echoed through the fortress, the walls shaking as a whoosh proceeced the explosion. "What the-?" Halt burst out. He was in the middle of pulling on a pair of socks, when the air was suddenly tinged of smoke. Cursing, Halt shuffled into his boots and snached up his longbow. The thick, choking smell was stronger now, and when he loooked out of his room, he glimpsed a tendril of the gray. "Smoke! Get out everybody!" Halt shouted, hoping someone would hear. He belted on a couple ofknives and dashed out.

Cadence jerked in suprise as the roof shuddered, pebbles and grit showering down fromthe stone. It ended as quickly as it had started, and when the Hunter glanced down, she could see the smoke pouring out like fog. Smiling delightedly, Cadence pulled back and nocked her first arrow, ready for the fun to begin.

Tom woke up, caughing. His room was full of smoke. He grabbed his longbow bow and dashed out of the room. The hall was even more smoke filled. He was finding it hard to breath. Down the hall he saw the door. He dashed toward it and rushed out into the open.

Faith was howling now. Amber woke up, turned on the light, and was about to scream at her, but then saw smoke in her room. "RUN, FAITH!" Amber screamed. She opened the door and ran. She ran into Tom, and asked, "What in the world is going on?! Faith was howling, and I saw smoke and... What's happening?!"

Titus woke up, smelling smoke. He ran out of his room and saw Amber. "We need to evacuate!" he yelled.

"I don't know!" Tom said. "There must be a fire!" He looked back at the fortress, smoke billowing from the doors and windows.
(LG's and Hunters, you should attack now.)

Arianna awoke to smoke and started coughing like crazy. She grabbed Chip and dashed outside. Her coughing wouldn't stop and her mind was a buzz, but then it stopped. Madison! She almost gave up running, to go back and find Madison, but instead, she reached the door and walk outside. She started to cry, as she held herself back from going back in. Chip started to cuddle, trying to make Arianna feel better.

Falathiel sat on Miriel and watched the Death Bringers come out one-by-one. She drew an arrow and waited for the right time.

Ryder snickered. She pulled an arrow from her quiver and shot at the door just as somebody came out. It stuck with a thunk on the wooden doorframe. Racing for the door, she pulled out her knife and shouted,"Go to where Cadence is!" to Mercedes and Umbre.

Amber said, "Well, come on! We have to get out!" She and Titus ran to the nearest exit. Jake was out there, and when she opened the door, he attacked her. Titus was shocked. "LIFE-GIVERS ARE ATTACKING!" he shouted, loud evough for everyone to hear. Amber and JAke threw some punches, until Amber punched him right in the temple. He was kocked out, then Amber screamed, "Come on!" "MADISON!" Titus shouted, running back in the fortress, "MADISON, WHERE ARE YOU?!" Amber waited in a tree, hoping Titus would hurry.

Tom saw the girl shoot the door and drooped into a crouch, his knife in hand. "It's a trap!" he yelled, covering the girl with the point of his knife.

Amber saw Tom and screeched, "TOM, RUN!" She jumped down and grabbed his hand. "We have to leave, like it or not." She heard snarls, and saw that Faith was fighting one of the Life-Giver's dog's. You were the dog i sensed! Scram! Faith snarled at Mari. Why should I? Mari replied sharply. The fight went on in the forest, and Faith came back with blood on her. Amber looked over her worridly, and saw a few minor wounds. Faith felt terrible, but she was protecting her owner. She killed Mari. She didn't feel good about it at all, but she tried to look a little cheerful. Amber looked back at Tom and said worridly, "We need to leave."

Ryder countered the Death-Bringer's knife with her own, slipping behind him and going for his head with the hilt. She decided only to knock them out until they came back for more. The smoke bombs' effect was diminishing, leaving only light wisps floating around at eye level. Quickly, she took out her bow again and shot a volley of arrows at the doorway, hoping it would hit someone. She resumed her battle with the male Death-Bringer.

(Sure!)
Tom barely dodged the hilt, than began to run toward the forest, yelling over his shoulder,"Okay, we need to escape!" But then James fired an arrow at Tom, who heard and froze the arrow in mid air. James tried to fly away, but Tom froze him, and James crashed to the ground. Torra dived toward Tom with a shriek. Tom turned upward as the hawk scratched his face. Tom used his power and Torra crashed to the ground, unable to move. Tom ran foward to finish James off.
"Hold on. I need to finish this guy off!" Tom said to Amber.

Cadence mercilessly shot arrow after arrow into the mass below, carefully aiming each shot so she didn't waste any of her arrows. Each broadhead killed or injured a Death-Bringer, and she stopped when her quiver was half empty. The Hunter chaged postion on the roof so it would be harder to target with missles sent from the ground.

Tenebris attacked Faith when her master became engaged in a fight with a Life-Bringer. The full rush and power of his broad shoulders bowled the dog over from behind, his white fangs flashing as he snarled and tore a ther shoulder. She had killed another dog: normally, he couldn't have cared less, but Tenebris understood that the dead dog had been on their side. The full-blooded black wolf snarled again, red tinting his eyes as he leaped out and away from the dog, until he was out of easy range.

Tom saw that the battle was going against the. Death bringers. The Life givers and hunters had the element of surprise, and arrows were picking off death bringers left and right. He looked around desperately, looking foe Amber. Alive giver swung a sword at him, which he dodged, and then stabbed the.life giver in the throat. The life giver fell in a heap. Tom ran over to James, and looked down at him. A quick thrust of his knife, and it was over. Tom strung his bow and began firing arrows at different Life givers.

Ryder sheathed her knife, using her now to knock people on the head. She tried to swing her bow over a girl's head (Amber ), attempting to secure her neck in the bow. She glared straight into the girls eyes, trying to use the darkness of the storm to her advantage.

Umbre bit at somebody's boot, but they kicked his head and he stumbled, losing consciousness. He howled weakly and staggered over to the shadows.

Tom saw Ryder attacking Amber. With a snarl of rage he kept toward them. He drew his knife in mid air, landing close to them. He struck out at Ryder with his knife, at the same time freezing the arm that held the bow.

Cadence surveyed the battle quickly, picking out Zephyra, Xurxo, Jack, Falathiel, Eli.... The next person she saw made her string her longbow in a quick, fluid motion, nocking an arrow in the space of a heartbeat. Majesty let out a war cry as she turned slightly, testing which way the wind blew, calculating it into her shot. Even as her heart was pounding, the hands that held the bow were steady and strong, moving like thousands of times before. Cadence took a breath, and released simultaneously with her exhale, sending a broadhead arrow arcing through the sky like a flag of death to the person who had dared to attack Ryder.

Tom didn't see the arrow until it was almost too late. At the last second he half turned, and in stead of killing him the arrow drove deep into his side. Someone whit me! he thought dimly, through the haze of pain. A wreak of whight hot pain racked his body as he collapsed onto the ground.
