Yay or Nay?
Involving Genetics in Litters?
Well, I come from another site, and over there they're really big on genetics for litters and such. I was wondering if you guys have anything like that over here. I'm training in genetics too, so if there isn't, and people are interested in incorporating it here, I could gladly help! It would make for a more realistic RP, in my opinion.

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
Sounds a little too complicated
I mean, it's more "for fun" than anything else
no need to bring science into this LOLOL

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
I think it would help make the results of what the kits in the litter would look like, more realistic. But...yeah we're not as big on genetics here like I said before. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have the option of doing it if we want too. I say yes.

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
But it IS fun.....and confusing at times, but........well, I just like having everything make sense in science and everything. I'm just....well, nerdy like that. Sorry....
I think that it's fun seeing all the different options, and also seeing that when you think that there would be a lot of options, there isn't.
Well, I'm just a science person, I think.
HEY MADHU! Back me up! XD

i also think it's a good idea. I mean, yes it is for fun, but it would also make more sense if the kits actually looked like their parents ^_^

I think that you need around 30 post before you're allowed to PM
This is an interesting concept! I've never really thought of it (actually just a couple of times but yeah) .-.

Hey, guys!!! Iceclaw, speaking of Dragon's wrath, no conversations, remember?
I admit genetics is an interesting concept.... Lol, I think I'd say yes, but optional.

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
Well, this is a poll, and I don't know if others approve of this idea or not, so I think that it might be better if we don't lock this for now. But again, that is totally up to your discretion.

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
i always thought it was too weird when mates have unreasonable amounts of kits in one litter and they all look completely different from each other and their parents. although, i'm still confused with what you're trying to say. i'm 12. o.O

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
I'm 15!
Anyways, so genetics=The branch of biology that deals with heredity, especially the mechanisms of hereditary transmission and the variation of inherited characteristics among similar or related organisms.
...that also means "a science that deals with how the children of parents look how they do, gain genetic diseases, etc."
In realism, cats usually have 5 kits, 7 being also okay, and 12 being a world record...

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
You're welcome! For some reason, on my other RP site, I seem to have gotten a reputation for being good at explaining things to others. I always help the newbies there, and now I'm getting helped here! I love how it's all come full-circle.

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
This sounds interesting, but I'm more curious to know in how you plan to set this up, integrate this into our already established kit system, how it works, and how you plan to maintain this.

Would she have to become a GM to do that? Because this is a great idea.

Re: Involving Genetics in Litters?
-Hi Dragonclaw! I've got a little problem..hehe-
We had a whole board where people training in genetics would figure[for lack of a better word] the phenotypes[physical appearances] of the offspring of someone(s) characters. It would be pretty easy, with a "form" being a thread listing the phenotypes of the parents, and all other information offered on them, such as what alleles they carry, genetic diseases, etc. A sample "form" would be like this:
The reply to this would be...
The things that you might want to know:
Tabico = Tabby calico
Bicolor = with white. Only in solid and white, nothing else.
Father is always listed first
All abnormalities should be listed
Pelt color is needed
Pelt length is needed
Eye color is NOT needed
If you know what alleles your character is carrying, please list them.
In this system, if not stated, it will be assumed that the cats are heterozygous. I've listed the genome of the parents below.
So that's how the system I'm familiar with works. It's pretty simple, yet extremely effective.
Oh, and about the kit system here, could someone please explain it to me? I heard that everyone RPs their own kits, and that OOC adoptions are not allowed...
Oh, and if you guys still have questions, please ask them!

Hi! Werepyre here. I'm requesting the genetics for a litter.
The king's phenotype: Chocolate mackerel tabby with white with medium fur. Carries cinnamon.
The queen's phenotype: Cinnamon classic tabico with long fur. Has folded ears.
Thanks for your help!
The reply to this would be...
Please note that this may not be completely accurate, since I worked it out myself, but I am sure that it is pretty close.Chocolate mackerel tabby with whiteX Cinnamon classic tabby and white
Male: cinnamon tabby with white, red tabby,
Female: cinnamon tabico, cinnamon tabby with white, chocolate tabico, chocolate tabby with white
Kits can have any realistic eye color.
50% will have medium fur
50% will have long fur
All tabbies will be mackerel.
Kits will carry classic tabby.
Chocolate kits will carry cinnamon
The things that you might want to know:

Bicolor = with white. Only in solid and white, nothing else.

- Spoiler:
- Mom:
b|b|XXooDDAAtbtbSS
Father:
bb|XYbb|ooDDAATTSS
As you can see, they are not heterozygous. That's because I don't have that much time on my hands right now...
So that's how the system I'm familiar with works. It's pretty simple, yet extremely effective.
