Iceclaw's fanfic chapter one

C H A P T E R O N E

“Stonestep! Frozenfur just had kits!”
The dark gray tom, who had just returned from a long afternoon hunting patrol, pricked his ears and bounded towards the nursery. He was immediately greeted a brown-and-white tom. “Tuftyfoot, is Frozenfur alright?” He asked anxiously, pacing about back and forth.
The medicine cat did not reply but dipped his head as Stonestep rushed inside. A pure white she-cat was in the corner, suckling four tiny kits. The queen looked up and purred,” Stonestep, these are our kits.”
Stonestep nuzzled Frozenfur affectionately and flicked his tail towards the kits. “What names have you chosen for them?”
Frozenfur looked at them with pride. “Icekit and Snowkit,” breathed as she tilted her head at two pure white she-kits. Her tail gently touched the last two kits, a gray she-kit and a silver tom,” Shinykit and Silverkit.”
A purr rumbled in Stonestep’s throat loudly. “They will make into fine warriors,” He mewed firmly. Just then, Tuftyfoot emerged from outside, closely followed by a gray she-cat carrying a bundle of herbs. She dropped the borage leaves and seeds before Frozenfur. “Eat these, they will provide you with more milk to feed your kits.”
“Stonestep,” The brown-and-white medicine cat meowed, turning towards the gray tom,” You should give your mate some peace. She needs to rest.” With that, he nudged the gray she-cat, “Willowpaw, I need you to pick some catmint near the twoleg place. Oakfur has whitecough and we are running out of supplies.” The gray medicine cat apprentice twitched her ears in acknowledgement and bounded off.
Stonestep glanced back at the kits as he was about to leave. He paused suddenly in his pawsteps. His gaze lingered on the Silverkit. There was something different about that kit, he thought, narrowing his green eyes. With slight hesitation, he left the nursery.
