- Opalkit watched helplessly from a fallen tree while her mother, Dawnsun, was caught in a swirling current of water.
"Run, Opalkit! Save yourself!" Dawnsun called from the river.
Opalkit howled in agony as her mother disappeared underneath the dirty, clouded water. She had to do something! Opalkit instinctively jumped into the swolen river and swam towards the spot she had seen her mother disappear. Over there! Opalkit spotted a flash of her mother's golden pelt. Suddenly a huge wave washed over Opalkit's frail body and the current pulled Opalkit downstream.
"Mother!" Opalkit stuttered. I can't breathe! she thought, right before she blacked out.

- I walked in the single den to check on Opalkit, the mysterious kit found by the edge of camp a few sunrises ago.
"How are you today, Opalkit?" "Fine." Opalkit responded briskly.
Okay, so maybe Opalkit wasn't the friendliest cat...
"Are you feeling alright?" "Fine" Opalkit replied again.
It seemed Opalkit had forgotten everything from her previous ordeal - Or maybe she just wasn't telling me. The only thing she had told us was her name. Sigh. It is hard enough being the medicine cat apprentice in a just beginning clan without bothersome kits.
But one day this kit would grow up to become the next generation of warriors, so I shouldn't be complaining. Most cats had come from a troubled place, and had just managed to escape. Some of our cat's traveling companions hadn't made it to our retreat. That is why we are called Survivorclan- all of us are survivors. We travel from one place to another hoping to save cats.
The constant traveling is not desired for some, so we have had to leave behind some companions as soon as we were sure they could set up a home and feed themselves. I felt that Opalkit was a keeper- she could grow up to be a strong and dependable cat.
I heard the scrabble of claws on stone and I stuck my head out the opening in the den. Oh, good, the hunting patrol was back.
Glad to be done with Opalkit, I walked to the fresh-kill pile and took a mouse. I knew tomorrow I would have to hunt- since there were not a lot of cats, even medicine cats had to hunt and build and patrol to find lost cats. But for now, I would enjoy looking after my Clan in a way only Medicine Cats can.

- Returning from hunting with Swiftpaw, my apprentice, I marched over to Opalkit and picked her up by her scruff. "Hey!" Opalkit protested, but Swiftpaw and I had already dashed to the training hollow.
Even though Opalkit was probably only 4 moons old, this clan needed all the help we could get. And I could see the playful kit was annoying Whitestorm.
"The first thing a warrior learns is the hunting crouch" I started to explain to Opalkit, but Opalkit interupted. "I already know the hunting crouch!!" I sighed. "Okay, Opalkit, show me." Swiftpaw looked down quizically at the small kit. Opalkit waved her tail, then crouched down in a miniature hunting crouch. I chuckled at Opalkit, the intense expression on her face humorous.
"Good. But focus your weight on your paws, not in your middle." Opalkit shifted her weight so she was balanced. "Now, try taking a few steps forward." Opalkit shuffled her feet forward, disturbing a few leaves. "Swiftpaw, what is Opalkit doing wrong?" I had to start training Swiftpaw to be able to mentor cats.
When Opalkit becomes an apprentice, either Swiftpaw or I would have to train her. Swiftpaw would have become a warrior by then, so Aquastar would probably give him Opalkit to train for experiance. I would probably be hosting training sessions for new cats and review sessions for old ones. We had to be prepared for anything.

- When Swiftpaw, Opalkit, and I returned to camp, we ran into a patrol led by Aquastar.
"Badgers! On the border!" She quickly mewed.
"Opalkit, stay here!" I instructed, and ran out of camp with Swiftpaw close behind me.
Dodging through trees, we finally reached a clearing. A queen with two kits stood behind a tree, tail wrapped protectivly around the kits, with fear in her eyes. In the middle of the clearing, a tom, clearly the father of the kits, stood fighting the bigger of the two badgers. The badger knocked him off his paws and reached in for the death blow.
With a yowl, Swiftpaw rushed at the badger. Distracted, the badger looked up and gave the tom enough time to scramble to his paws and swipe the badger's nose. Swiftpaw took a great leap and landed on the bader's back, claws unsheathed.
I couldn't let the two cats fight alone, but where was Aquastar's patrol? Going against my better judgement, I attacked the second badger before he could assist his leader. With a yowl, Aquastar and Runningwind reached the clearing.
Oh? You thought a patrol would include more than two cats? We don't have enough cats to include more than two in patrols and still get tasks done.
Runningwind ran to the badger Swiftpaw and the tom were battering, and started attacking his legs. With a yowl, the badger ran off, his companion following.
I licked a scratch on my side, while Aquastar turned to a tree. "Okay, you can come out now." The queen I had seen before ushered her kits into the clearing. The kits immediatly ran up to their father, purring. "You saved us!" The bigger kit exclaimed. "No, these cats saved us." the tom said, gesturing to me and Swiftpaw.
Aquastar walked up, and dipped her head to the newcomers. "Hi there. I'm Aquastar, leader of SurvivorClan."
"Oh, Lilyheart! She has the same title as Siverstar!" The smaller kit blurted out. "Shh, darling." The queen murmured.
"You have been through a lot. Would you like to come to our camp and stay with us for a little?" Aquastar offered. The tom dipped his head, slightly embarrased he was accepting the offer. "Thank you, Aquastar. I'm Thunderclaw, this is my mate Lilyheart, and these are our three kits, Stretchkit, Tumblekit, and Marshkit."
"Welcome to SurvivorClan!" Swiftpaw cheered. "I'm Swiftpaw, and this is my mentor Redwing!" I dipped my head, but the introduction was wasted.
"Redwing?" Thunderclaw tipped his head to the side. "You're alive?!?" I sighed. This would be a long story to tell. "Yes, but I will tell you everything later."
Marshkit turned to Swiftpaw. "We ran away from the mean cats! Branchkit-" Lilyheart covered marshkit's mouth with her tail. "We will tell these nice cats everyhting in the morning, but now you need to sleep." With a dip of her head, Aquastar started walking back to camp, all the cats following her.
Chapter 4~ Swiftpaw

- The next morning I woke up early to play with the kits before training. Pushing my way through the ferns covering the opening of the nursery, I was met with the sweet scent of the little kits not yet exposed to the harsh, sharp-scented forest air.
"Swiftpaw!" Marshkit squealed, and the three kits attacked.
Tumblekit swiped at my ear, and when I reached to bat him away, Marshkit scratched my belly with sheathed claws and Stretchkit leaped onto my back. With a groan, I collapsed, knowing this was a fight I could not win.
"Kits...." Lilyheart warned, and the kits jumped off my back.
"We were just playing!" Marshkit complaned.
"Yeah.... playing." Tumblekit licked his paw and swiped it over his ears, knocking off a bit of moss.
"Will all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather around me for a clan meeting!" Aquastar yowled from the main clearing. The dens started emptying of all the warriors and apprentices, but as soon as I sat down, Redwing came over and flicked my shoulder with his tail.
"We can't stay for this. I told Aquastar we'd take morning patrol, and if we wait any longer soon it will be time for sun-high patrol." Redwing mewed.
I sighed, and stood up. I'll get one of my denmates to tell me Aquastar's announcement later.
All throughout patrol, I couldn't stay focused. What if Aquastar was kicking Lilyheart and her kits out? I almost walked over a mouse in my path, and when I chased it and pounced I only caught it by a mouse-tail. It was a messy kill, and Redwing told me so.
After Redwing became impatient with my mistakes, he finally sighed and led the way back to camp, only returning with my mouse, a robin, and news of stale badger scent from last sunrise.

fine then. I haven't read all the books yet. boo. now they're going to be deathclan, but still nearly kill off all my characters cos they like death. BWA HA HA HA!!
