Neko the cat

He sat down with the cat curled up…
Mr Snook stroked his cat lovingly as he gazed dreamily out of the frosted glass window. It was Christmas night and the sound of children laughing echoed throughout the neighbourhood. He was already approaching his nineties and in his heart, though how much he tried to hide the fact, he knew that his days were getting shorter. Death was at his doorstep.
“Neko,” he told his beloved cat,” I’m too old to stand, let alone look after you. I’m afraid you need a new owner.”
“Miaow,” replied Neko, twitching his ears, not understanding what his master was saying.
Mr Snook scribbled a note and attached it to Neko’s collar. Reluctantly, he gently placed the cat on his porch and sadly closes the door. Neko stared at the door, pawing it restlessly while mewing pitifully.
Meanwhile, next door, a little boy by the name of Johnny opens his door, only to find a bedraggled cat in the harsh snow. “Poor thing!” the boy cried, rushing out towards the cat. He notices a note attached to the collar of the cat. It said,” I am Neko, a faithful and loyal cat. Please take care of me. I wish you a Merry Christmas!”
Johnny squealed in delight. He carried Neko back into his house. Mr Snook watched by his window at the retreating figure. His vision blurred slightly. He smiled. He was glad that he had found a home for his cat.
