The Harsh Leaf-bare
First topic message reminder :
Icefoot glared at the remains of the rabbit. “Goldenleaf, you can’t share that!” she protested. “It’s crow-food!”
The slender, golden tabby hissed crossly. “At least it’s something to chew on! We haven’t had a bite to eat in two days! I’m sure that the other Clans are doing just as bad.”
Icefoot snorted. “I suppose you can find out tonight at the Gathering,” she growled, glancing up at the sky. “I wish leaf-bare would end. This is the worst winter, I could ever remember.”
Goldenleaf twitched her tail and padded a few steps, her long legs sinking into the deep snow with each step. “Huh,” she muttered. “Leave the rabbit. Let’s go and see if we can find some non-crow-food prey.” She turned and stalked into the bare forest, tasting the air.
Icefoot followed quickly, her pale grey pelt barely a smudge in the endless piles of glittering, white snow.
“Icefoot! Goldenleaf!” A yowl cut through the peaceful silence. A pale ginger tabby burst out of the ferns, a black tabby tom following. “You’re hunting, aren’t you?” Swiftfire asked. “If you are, come join us at the beech tree. All the nuts are over there.” She pointed with her tail.
The black tom dipped his head. “We already caught a squirrel,” he meowed. “Too bad it’ll go to the queens and elders.”
Goldenleaf’s eyes lit up. “I bet you’re right, Thornfur! If we get enough paws, our Clan will eat well tonight.”
Swiftfire narrowed her amber eyes. “Well,” she muttered, “it’ll be the best meal out of this season.” She whipped around and vanished into the dry undergrowth.
Thornfur eagerly followed, with Goldenleaf racing at his side, they streaked off toward the Old Thunderpath.
Icefoot followed more slowly. Sniffing the air, she suddenly caught a whiff of mouse. Icefoot froze. Carefully tasting the air, she slowly turned toward the roots of an oak tree. Dropping into a crouch, she picked her way over the snowy ground, lifting and putting down each white paw carefully. Icefoot’s sharp green eyes gazed at the small brown creature scuffling in a pile of dead leaves. She slid forward, her eyes glued to the mouse. Icefoot could already taste the mouth-watering taste of prey. Now! She lunged, hooking the mouse into the air. With another swift swipe, the mouse was dead. Icefoot picked up the plump fresh-kill in her jaws, and turned to go. Then Icefoot stopped dead. A ShadowClan patrol faced her, their eyes shining with triumph. “How nice of you to catch it for us, Icefoot,” the warrior sneered, unsheathing his claws.

Re: The Harsh Leaf-bare
Icefoot let out a ragged gasp of pain as she stumbled over a tendril of bramble. "Icefoot? Icefoot! Why do I smell ShadowClan?" Swiftfire's sharp meow rang in the pale she-cat's ears as Icefoot dropped the mouse. "Their chasing me!" Icefoot licked at her swollen paw, glancing nervously behind her. "You go hide," Swiftfire said tersely. "Talonstrike, Thornfur, Goldenleaf, Nettlepaw, and I will fight." Icefoot opened her mouth in protest, by Goldenleaf cut her off. "They're looking for you," she pointed out, weaving through a bunch of ferns. "They're coming!" Thornfur hissed and whipped into attack positon. Icefoot glanced over her shoulder once more before vanishing over the dip.
More will come later! I don't have time now.

Re: The Harsh Leaf-bare
********
Goldenleaf turned to face the patrol as they stumbled over brambles and clumps of bracken. "Intruders!" Talonstrike warned and unsheathed his claws. Rowanclaw skidded to a stop as he raked group with icy eyes. "Where's Icefoot?" he growled in confusion. Redscar stepped forward and bared his teeth. "It doesn't matter. Let's atta-" Thornfur didn't let him finish. The gray-black tom pounced, and bowling Redscar over. Goldenleaf crouched and lunged at Toadfoot as Nettlepaw grappled with Pinepaw beside her. Talonstrike thrashed wildly as Rowanclaw bit into his shoulder, and managed to throw the ShadowClan deputy off as Swiftfire rolled past, pummeling Ferretpelt with fierce hind legs. Goldenleaf clawed at Toadfoot's eyes, but was forced to stop as he clawed at her belly. She twisted sharply, freeing herself from the young warrior's grip and leaped back. Just as she got her claws and teeth fastened firmly on her opponent's shoulder, a shriek ripped through the low snarls and hisses. Nettlepaw was hanging helplessly as Pinepaw bit at the dark brown apprentice's throat.
