AAHHH! I feel like there's too much killing in that chapter! But it brings more entertainment, drama, and sadness!
I promise I won't kill anyone next chapter. Hope you liked it.
No notes, really. But I do like that chapter, I've been waiting to tell Finchfeather's story.
Hai.
Sorry about the long chapter. I had to fit in the meeting.
The rest of the fanfic is in the posts!

- Chapter 1:
- When Skykit opened her eyes, she noticed Sandykit looked very different from her. Sand-colored fur (hence her name) and amber eyes. According to Sagenose, Skykit's mother, Skykit was white with an even whiter belly and soft light blue eyes. Sagenose was a beautiful tabby with bright blue eyes. Suddenly, a large black walked in with a smug look on his face.
"Widowtail! Come meet your kits!" Sagenose called to the cat. This must be my father, Skykit realized. The tom snorted.
"She-cats. Not what I was hoping for. Some females walking around camp gossiping about," he grunted. Sandykit nudged Skykit.
"He's joking," she told Skykit. Skykit nodded. Sagenose looked at her paws.
"She-cats aren't so bad." Sandykit nodded. Skykit was a bit confused, so she just nodded along with Sandykit.
Widowtail merely snorted and padded away. Sagenose sighed.
"Don't mind him. He's just tired," she told her kits. From the back of the nursery, a white she-cat was sleeping silently.
"You see her? That's Mintblossom. She's the only other queen. She's going to have her kits any day now. Grayscar is going to be those kits' father," Sagenose meowed. Skykit purred at the thought of playing with other kits besides Sandykit.
"Mother, can we explore?" Sandykit asked. Sagenose thought about it for a moment. She sighed.
"Hold on. I'll be right back. Don't go anywhere," she mewed, and walked out of the nursery.
"I wonder what she's doing?" Sandykit mewed. Skykit shrugged.
"I'd say we wait and find out," she squeaked. Sandykit rolled her eyes.
"Mouse dung! What if she's on a special mission? We could help!" she meowed. Skykit's eyes lit up. A special mission! It would be an honor to help! Think of all the rewards Steamstar would give to Skykit and her litter mate...Skykit ran out of the nursery without waiting for Sandykit and looked around. She spotted Sagenose chatting with a small tom. Skykit pranced over to them.
"I'll help!" she said. The tom looked confused.
"With what?" he asked.
"With your special mission! I wanna help!" Sagenose looked furious.
"I thought I told you to stay in the nursery!" she snapped. Skykit looked at her paws.
"Sorry, momma." The tom gave Skykit's shoulder a few quick licks.
"It's ok. Sagenose was just asking me to show you and your sister around camp! I'm Lizardpaw, by the way," he said. Skykit flicked tail.
"Yes! I'll go get Sandykit!" Skykit ran into the nursery.
"Sandykit! We're going to get a tour around camp! Come on!" Skykit mewed enthusiastically. Sandykit jumped up.
"Who's showing us around?" she asked.
"Someone named Lizardpaw."
"Ok. Let's go!" The two kits stumbled out of the nursery.
"Wizardpaw? Gizzardpaw, or whatever your name is, where are you?" Sandykit called. Lizardpaw padded up to the she-cats.
"Right here, Landykit," he mewed. Sandykit hissed.
"I actually didn't know your name!" Lizardpaw rolled his eyes.
"Whatever." Sagenose padded over.
"Are you being rude, Sandykit?" she asked. Sandykit hissed.
"Hey! Why me? Why not blame Skykit!" she snapped. Sagenose's ears flicked.
"Trust me. I know," she said, walking away. Skykit snickered.
"Ha! She trusts me more!" she mewed. Sandykit looked upset.
"Does that mean she likes you more than me?" she asked.
"Of course not! Mother was just joking around. Now let's get on with our tour, shall we?" Skykit mewed. Sandykit nodded.
"Alright." Lizardpaw padded over to a cave.
"This is the apprentices' den. This where Icepaw and I sleep. You'll be moving in here in a few moons," he mewed. A gorgeous she-cat trotted out of the den.
"Lizardpaw," she meowed, her voice like silk. "Are you showing the kits around?" Lizardpaw nodded.
"Kits, this is Icepaw. Icepaw, this is Skykit and Sandykit," he said. Icepaw gave Sandykit's head a few quick licks.
"I can't wait until you move in with us!" Icepaw exclaimed. Skykit bounced around.
"I can't wait either!" Lizardpaw motioned the kits to move on.
"See you later, Icepaw," he purred to the black-eared she-cat with fur as white as snow. Lizardpaw stopped at a bigger cave.
"The warriors' den." Skykit's jaw dropped.
"Wow!" Lizardpaw purred when he heard Skykit's enthusiasm.
"Come on, let's go." Sandykit and Lizardpaw trotted away, but Skykit felt like she wanted to stay awhile. A tall broad black tom with ginger paws began to enter the den, but he tripped over Skykit.
"Ow! What are you doing, kit? Why aren't you in the nursery whining until you become an apprentice?" the tom snapped.
"Sorry. Lizardpaw was showing me around camp, and—"
"Then where's Lizardpaw?" Before Skykit could say anything, a voice interrupted her.
"Finchfeather! Are you scaring the kits?" A tall white she-cat approached the tom.
"Snowmist. What do you care? You hate kits ever since all of yours died expect that useless apprentice. I taught Widowtail well. She-cats are useless," the tom hissed. Snowmist curled her lip.
"You were the father of that so-called useless apprentice! Show some respect to Icepaw!" Finchfeather snorted.
"At least Widowtail acted like a normal son to me when I mentored him," he mewed.
"Well leave the kit alone and mind your own business!" Snowmist unsheathed her claws and scratched his tail.
"Some loyal mate you are."
When the tour was over, Skykit and Sandykit returned to the nursery.
"See you another time!" Sandykit squeaked when Lizardpaw made his way back to the apprentices' den. He turned around.
"Maybe when you're older I could show you around the territory," he mewed. The kits nodded quickly. Lizardpaw purred in amusement, turned back around, and entered the apprentices' den. Skykit curled up next to her mother.
"'Night Sandykit," she whispered.
"'Night Skykit." Skykit closed her eyes, but didn't fall asleep. I don't want to sleep in the nursery tonight, Skykit thought. I want to sleep in the warriors' den! She quietly stood up and stretched. Mintblossom stirred, but didn't wake up. Skykit carefully made her way out of the nursery. She fell over onto a leaf, which made a crunching noise. A nearby cat guarding the camp turned her head.
"Who's there?" she called. Skykit stepped into a small mud puddle to hide her scent. The she-cat guarding the camp wrinkled her nose at the muddy scent.
"Must be Muddytooth," she muttered, and turned back around. Skykit shuffled into the warriors' den. The familiar pelt of the white she-cat who defended her was near the back, so Skykit tiptoed over to her. She curled up and closed her eyes. Suddenly a yowl erupted outside the warriors' den. Sagenose!
"Skykit! She's missing!" Skykit's mother's cry rang in the little white kit's ears. Her heart lurched. How did she notice Skykit's absence so quickly? A tiny white she-cat next to Skykit opened her eyes. She looked to be about the size of an apprentice.
"And I thought Sandykit was the troublemaker." Skykit scooted towards the back of the den. The small she-cat sighed.
"Skykit." Skykit had been caught.
"I know you're there." The she-cat stood up and grabbed Skykit by the scruff. Skykit wasn't too thrilled to be hanging in a warrior the size of 2 kits combine's jaws.
"Sagenose," the small warrior mewed, her mew muffled by Skykit's fur.
"Oh, Tinyflame! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Where did you find her?" Sagenose cried. The small warrior—apparently Tinyflame—glared at Skykit.
"The warriors' den. Sleeping," she hissed. Skykit looked at ground in embarrassed.
"Sorry," she squeaked. Sagenose nipped at her tail.
"You scared me," Sagenose snapped. Skykit sighed.
"Sorry." Tinyflame set Skykit down.
"You know that was wrong," she mewed. Skykit nodded. Sagenose glared at Tinyflame.
"I can take care of my own kit, thanks," Sagenose snapped. Tinyflame narrowed her eyes.
"I'm sorry for trying to help." And with that, Tinyflame stormed back into the warriors' den. Sagenose did not seem to be very friendly with Tinyflame.
"Mommy, I just wanted—"
"It's ok, dear," Sagenose sighed. "You're just a kit. You don't know what you're doing." Skykit felt offended about being told that she didn't know anything, but pushing it wouldn't help in any way. Skykit padded back to the nursery with Sagenose.
"Thank you for not punishing me," Skykit squeaked. Sagenose nodded.
"It was nothing." Skykit curled up next to Sandykit, who was still asleep, unlike Mintblossom, who was glaring at Sagenose for yowling in the middle of the night.
"Go to sleep, small one," Sagenose coaxed Skykit. "You can explore in the morning." Skykit lashed her little tail. Explore more! Maybe she could explore the whole territory. But they were too young. I guess I just gotta wait 6 more moons, Skykit thought. 6 LONG moons...
I based this part a bit of this off Bluestar's Prophecy. Mean father, nice mother, two she-cats...that's pretty much it, kind of.
- Chapter 2:
- Skykit was now 4 moons old. Mintblossom's kits had been born, and now Tulipnose was expecting Smokefur's kits. One of Mintblossom's kits, Stonekit, bounced up to Skykit. "When will Tulipnose have her kits?" he squeaked.
"I don't know. You'll have to ask Tulipnose or Muddytooth," Skykit replied. Stonekit gave his fur a few quick laps.
"Ok." He padded back over to his brother and sister, Autumnkit and Oakkit. Sandykit trotted over to Skykit.
"Hey," Sandykit mewed halfheartedly. Skykit grunted in greeting. Just then, a dark gray tom burst into the den.
"Hello, my kits!" he meowed. Autumnkit and Oakkit bounced over to him.
"Father!" Autumnkit yowled happily. Grayscar gave Autumnkit a few quick licks.
"I brought you something," he mewed.
"What?" Stonekit yowled. Grayscar turned around and grabbed something in his jaws. He turned back around.
"Wow! A rabbit!" Oakkit exclaimed. Skykit couldn't help feeling jealous. Widowtail never went out of his way to bring Skykit and her sister things. Suddenly, a smoky gray tom entered the den.
"Smokefur, my love!" Tulipnose exclaimed. Sandykit rolled her eyes.
"I don't want a mate," she meowed. "It seems so gross." Sagenose gave Sandykit a quick wash.
"You'll want a mate when you're older," she mewed. "You will." Sandykit snorted. Stonekit ran up to her.
"Um...do you want to play moss ball?" he asked quietly.
"Sure!" Sandykit mewed. She grabbed a moss ball and batted it in Smokefur's direction. It hit him.
"Sorry," Stonekit mewled. Smokefur purred in amusement.
"It's alright." Sandykit took the moss ball back and batted it at Autumnkit. She caught it in her jaws. She threw it back. But she didn't have good aim and hit Smokefur—again.
"Sorry," Autumnkit meowed. Smokefur shrugged.
"Whatever." Sandykit picked up the moss ball and ran outside the nursery.
"Let's go!" she cried. Skykit nudged Stonekit to follow her.
"Go on," she mewed. Stonekit followed Sandykit outside. Skykit watched them play awhile, but soon the sky began to darken.
"Come back in the nursery," Mintblossom meowed. Sandykit hesitated.
"Um...Stonekit isn't moving," she mewed. Skykit's heart lurched. Mintblossom walked outside with Autumnkit and Oakkit.
"Stonekit," Mintblossom mewed. "C'mon. We're gonna eat Grayscar's rabbit now." But Stonekit didn't move.
"Muddytooth!" Sagenose cried. The young white tom that smelled of mud ran over to Stonekit almost immediately. His face grew emotional.
"Stonekit." He licked Stonekit's fur the wrong way quickly. Mintblossom was leaning over her kit, looking extremely concerned. Muddytooth stopped licking.
"Mintblossom, I'm so sorry. I tried—" Mintblossom yowled so loudly that DawnClan could probably hear from their territories.
"Your fault! It's all your fault!" At first Skykit didn't know who Mintblossom was talking to, but her furious gaze was fixed on—
"Sandykit? She didn't do anything!" Skykit protested. Mintblossom glared at Skykit.
"She's the one who took Stonekit outside!" she snapped. Skykit shuffled her paws.
"She didn't know he would—"
"Mintblossom is right, Skykit. No point in trying to defend me. It's my fault." Sandykit padded back inside, her tail drooping.
"But—" Skykit glared at Mintblossom.
"You can't just go around blaming my litter mates for your kit's death!" she hissed. Sagenose placed her tail over Skykit's mouth.
"That is no way to treat the other nursery queens!" Sagenose snapped. Oakkit walked over to Skykit.
"I don't blame Sandykit for Stonekit's death," he mewed. Autumnkit gave a quick nod in agreement and joined her brother and Skykit.
"Mother, you don't blame kits for deaths." Mintblossom's eyes gleamed with fury. She said nothing, but her eyes burned into Skykit's soul.
"I won't forget this." Mintblossom mouthed the words as if her life was depending on it. She padded back into the nursery. Autumnkit looked worried.
"Mother is never nice when she's angry." Grayscar, who had been standing there silently in shock, gave Autumnkit's head a few quick licks.
"You know what? You and your brother can sleep in the apprentices' den tonight!" he mewed. Skykit couldn't deny she was extremely envious.
"But—"
"Of course Sandykit and Skykit can join," Grayscar added in. Skykit felt so happy she wouldn't mind if 5 ShadeClan warriors attacked her. Suddenly, an ear-splitting shriek came from inside the nursery.
"Uh oh. Sandykit and Mintblossom," Sagenose meowed. She hurried into the nursery and came out immediately with Sandykit in her jaws. She had a long scar across her muzzle. Sagenose silently cursed back at Mintblossom.
"She's gone crazy!" Sandykit exclaimed, wincing as her scar widened a bit when she opened her mouth.
"We can't have crazy cats in our Clan," Sagenose mewed. Skykit purred in amusement at first, but then realized that her mother was serious.
"Should we take her to Muddytooth, or..." Sandykit suggested, glancing back at the nursery.
"What does Steamstar do to cats who go mad?" Skykit asked curiously.
"Steamstar hasn't encountered a cat who's gone mad until now. But Lilacstar has," Sagenose mewed through Sandykit's fur. Lilacstar was the leader before Steamstar. They were actually litter mates, according to Tulipnose.
"Their names were Lavaspots and Shadowsoul," Sagenose meowed. She put Sandykit down.
"I was a kit when they came back to the Clan. They used to be loyal warriors, but then they let rogues into the Clan. 3 of the former warriors drove them all out, including Lavaspots and Shadowsoul. But moons later, they returned and claimed that one of our warriors was their daughter. Her name was Brightdapple. But Lilacstar figured out that those 2 mouse-brains were lying. When she and a patrol went to save Brightdapple, they came just in time. Just in time to see Brightdapple killed. But Lavaspots didn't know Shadowsoul had gone crazy moons ago. Shadowsoul killed him and Lilacstar, but luckily Lilacstar had a few lives left. You know Ghostwhisper, right? Well, he killed Shadowsoul and saved FlameClan. So that might mean—" Sagenose stopped short.
"What's wrong?" Sandykit asked.
"Mintblossom might have to be killed."
AAHHH! I feel like there's too much killing in that chapter! But it brings more entertainment, drama, and sadness!
- Chapter 3:
- Skykit entered the apprentices' den.
"You too?" the white apprentice, Icepaw, mewed. Autumnkit purred in amusement.
"Yep," she mewed. Oakkit was in the back of the nursery, asking Lizardpaw eagerly how to do the hunter's crouch. Sandykit and Skykit went over to sit next to Autumnkit.
"I'm sorry for your loss," Sandykit mewed. Autumnkit shuffled her paws.
"I wonder what they'll do to mother since she went crazy," she wondered aloud. Skykit didn't tell her what Sagenose predicted. Suddenly, a high-pitched yowl came from the nursery.
"My kits! Mintblossom, you'll kill them all!" the voice yowled.
"Oh no! That sounds like Tulipnose!" Icepaw wailed. She rushed to the nursery. Lizardpaw, Oakkit, and Autumnkit followed her.
"Should we go?" Sandykit wondered. Skykit nodded. The two sisters ran into the nursery. Mintblossom was on top of Tulipnose, an evil look blooming on her face. Tulipnose's belly was sliced, blood gushing out.
"Mintblossom! Have you gone mad?" Icepaw exclaimed.
"Yes!" Autumnkit, Oakkit, Sandykit, and Skykit meowed in unison. Lizardpaw pulled Mintblossom away from the horrified queen. Icepaw ran over to Tulipnose and began to ask her questions urgently. Icepaw looked over at all the kits.
"Oakkit! Autumnkit! Go get Muddytooth! Skykit! Sandykit! Go get Steamstar!" she cried. Sandykit dashed out of the nursery. Skykit followed her. Sandykit ran over to a tall rock. There was a den the size of the warriors' den on top of it.
"That's Steamstar's den! Let's go!" Sandykit exclaimed. The two kits started climbing the rock. Skykit made it up first and rushed inside.
"Steamstar! We need your help!" the kit burst out. The broad-shouldered tom turned around. His amber eyes gleamed with concern.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Mintblossom's gone mad! Stonekit died and—"
"I know."
"Whatever. Anyway, she went crazy after that and now she's blaming Sandykit for her kit's death, and now she's trying to kill Tulipnose! You have to hurry!" Skykit ignored the incredible den that Steamstar slept in, no matter how amazing it was. There was a small waterfall on the back wall, and there was a small fresh-kill pile in the corner. Steamstar ran out of the den, causing Skykit to stumble.
"Let's go!" Skykit yowled to Sandykit as she jumped off the tall rock. Sandykit started following her until they arrived at the nursery.
"You get your filthy paws off my daughter!" Steamstar was hissing at Mintblossom. The gray leader pinned the white queen down on her back.
"She needs to feel my pain, and pain itself!" Mintblossom yowled. She's trying to kill Tulipnose and the kits! Skykit realized. It was obvious, but she didn't know Mintblossom was trying to kill all of them. Smokefur came rushing into the nursery.
"What has that fox dung done to my mate?" he hissed, deep aggression burning in his eyes. He saw the deep wound in Tulipnose's belly and his aggression turned to sadness.
"Did the kits—"
"I don't know." Lizardpaw and Icepaw entered the den with Muddytooth. The small tom dashed over to Tulipnose. He put a cobweb on her belly.
"Hopefully the kits survived," Muddytooth mewed. Tulipnose nodded.
"She's gone mad...ever since Stonekit—" The moment the word "Stonekit" came out of Tulipnose's mouth, Mintblossom escaped Steamstar's grip and launched herself on the golden queen.
"If you even say my kit's name, you and your kits'll be joining him in StarClan. What am I saying? StarClan doesn't even exist!" Steamstar glared at the crazy queen.
"Sagenose can take care of Oakkit and Autumnkit." The leader bounced up and landed on Mintblossom.
"I hope the dark forest welcomes you." Mintblossom was gone. Gone from FlameClan, gone from the forest, gone from the world. Steamstar sighed.
"It was for Tulipnose. And the kits. I had a reason. It's ok. It's fine. She was evil," he told himself. "But she had kits. And she was just sad for her lost kit." Smokefur approached Steamstar and whispered something in his ear. The leader nodded and walked out of the den.
"Thank you, father," Tulipnose called. Steamstar flicked his tail to tell her he heard. Icepaw guided Lizardpaw, who had been hurt when trying to keep Mintblossom away from Tulipnose, out of the nursery. Sagenose ran into the den.
"Steamstar told me I'll take care of you two," she mewed, looking at Oakkit and Autumnkit. The two kits nodded.
"I'm sorry for your loss," she added in. Grayscar followed Sagenose into the nursery. He looked upset.
"I'm sorry. She went crazy, and—"
"It's fine. Sagenose is fun!" Oakkit said. A large happy scent overflowed from Sagenose.
"And you can't sleep in the apprentices' den tonight." Skykit's heart dropped.
"But—"
"I'm sorry. Mintblossom is gone, so there's no reason for you to," Grayscar mewed. Sandykit stepped forward, Oakkit by her side.
"Yeah! There's plenty of reasons! How about our pleasure? Or Icepaw and Lizardpaw's company? Or—"
"Sorry. We just can't," Sagenose meowed.
"Aww!" all the kits whined. Sagenose gave Grayscar's ear a few quick licks.
"I'm sorry for your loss," she mewed. Grayscar looked at Sagenose.
"It's fine. She went crazy," he meowed. Sagenose brushed her muzzle against his cheek. Grayscar purred and returned to the warriors' den. Sagenose laid down. Autumnkit and Oakkit curled up close to her. Skykit joined them. Sandykit stayed picked a spot next to Oakkit.
"So, are they our half-sister and half-brother?" Sandykit asked. Sagenose shook her head.
"I'm just taking care of them. That doesn't mean we're kin now," she meowed. Sandykit nodded.
"Ok. Just wondering," she mewed, and closed her eyes. Skykit laid down next to her mother and fell into deep slumber. Please stop all this dying, StarClan. Most of them are all innocent cats, she thought.
I promise I won't kill anyone next chapter. Hope you liked it.
- Chapter 4:
- Skykit woke with a start. Sandykit was nudging her annoyingly.
"Skykit! Skykit! Skykit! Guess what day it is! Guess. What. Day. It. Is," she mewed. (Hump day! ) Skykit glared at Sandykit.
"What?" she grunted.
"We're finally going to become apprentices!" Sandykit mewed happily. Wow! Those 6 moons passed by so quickly...yet so slowly. Just as Skykit was about to open her mouth, a yowl came from outside the nursery.
"Would all cats old enough to fight other cats gather before Tall Rock!" the yowl said. Sagenose picked Skykit up by the scruff.
"Come along, now," she mewed. Skykit's mother set her down in front of the rock. Sandykit plopped down next to her.
"Skykit and Sandykit," Steamstar mewed. "The long awaited 6 moons have finally come to an end. I call upon our warrior ancestors to look down on these kits. In the name of StarClan, these two have waited 6 moons and that time is now up. Skykit." Skykit stepped forward. "From this moment on until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Skypaw. Sandykit." Sandykit joined Skypaw. "From this moment on until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Sandypaw." They both stepped forward anf allowed Steamstar to lick their shoulders, like every other apprentice ceremony. Skypaw and Sandypaw looked at each happily. The looks on their faces defied everything going through their minds.
"Ghostwhisper, you will be mentoring Sandypaw. I hope you mentor her well," Steamstar continued. Ghostwhisper dipped his head respectfully.
"Finchfeather, you will mentor Skypaw. I hope you use the skills you learned by mentoring Widowtail to mentor this young she-cat." Skypaw looked over at the black tom. He looked disgusted. Skypaw stepped forward and lowered her head, waiting for Finchfeather to lick her shoulder like Steamstar did. All he did was snort and walk away.
"Finchfeather. Please obey the ceremony traditions and lick Skypaw's shoulder. You should know. You mentored Widowtail," Steamstar hissed. Finchfeather glared at his leader and muttered something under his breath. He licked Skypaw's shoulder and walked away rudely. Skypaw looked over at Sandypaw and Ghostwhisper. Mentor and apprentice were happily chatting and sharing tongues. Sagenose gave Skypaw a few quick licks on the head.
"You'll get used to him," she mewed, looking in Finchfeather's direction. Skypaw grunted.
"Yeah. I'm sure I will," she muttered. Sagenose padded over to Sandypaw. She talked with her for a few, then walked away. Icepaw bounded up to Skypaw.
"It's awesome we're sharing a den now, right?" she mewed. That's right! Skypaw had completely forgotten about how she didn't have to sleep in the nursery anymore.
"So you got my father as a mentor," Icepaw said. Skypaw nodded.
"Yeah," she sighed.
"That's awesome!" Icepaw mewed. Awesome? He's a mouse-brained idiot with bees in his head!
"Um...yeah! He's quite...something..." Skypaw meowed, not knowing what to say. Icepaw giggled.
"I was joking. Finchfeather is a chunk of fox dung. I know he's my father, but who can't deny that?" she meowed. Skypaw purred in amusement.
"You really got me there. Let's go," she mewed, grabbing a fat rabbit for her and Icepaw to share.
"I wish I could explore the territories, but I got that mouse-brain as a mentor, so I'll probably not get to learn the territories until I'm 26 moons old," Skypaw joked. Icepaw nodded.
"Luckily I got Foamsplash as a mentor. She's great; sometimes she lets me climb Cloud Pine!" she meowed. Cloud Pine was the tallest tree in the forest, which Flamestar managed to get in her Clan's territory. Skypaw once heard a story that Appleheart fell off, but Ghostwhisper caught her as she fell. And they were still apprentices when that happened! Suddenly, a tall she-cat padded into the den.
"Hey Tawnyrose," Icepaw yawned. The she-cat flicked her tail in greeting.
"Hello!" Skypaw mewed loudly. The she-cat dipped her head in greeting.
"Why isn't she talking?" Skypaw whispered to Icepaw.
"Don't you know? A branch scrapped her throat when she was an apprentice, so know she can't speak at all," Icepaw replied.
"Oh," Skypaw mewed. "I'm sorry. I didn't know." Tawnyrose went into the hunter's crouch, then pointed in the direction of the exit of the camp.
"She says we have a hunting patrol with our mentors," Icepaw explained.
"Oh, ok!" Skypaw said merrily. Her first hunting patrol! With Finchfeather. How fun. Oh well.
"Finchfeather!" Skypaw yowled. The black tom came walking out of the warriors' den.
"What do you want?" he scowled.
"Um, hunting patrol."
Finchfeather rolled his eyes.
"Already?" he whined. Skypaw nodded.
"Uh, yeah. Why? Would you rather you be snuggled up and sleeping? Oh, you're a sleepy Finchfeather, aren't you? Oh, yes are! Yes you are!" Skypaw said in a mock-baby voice. Finchfeather narrowed his eyes. Icepaw padded up to Skypaw and her mentor. A shockingly black she-cat was with her. She had deep brown ears. It must've been Foamsplash.
"Let's go," Foamsplash mewed. She had an odd accent. Skypaw let Foamsplash walk in front of her. She sniffed her. There was definitely FlameClan scent, but there was a very faint scent also mixed in. It was barely noticeable.
"Icepaw," Skypaw whispered to the white she-cat. "Do you know if your mentor is Clan-born?" Icepaw nodded.
"A very long time ago, some FlameClan warriors went on a quest to the mountains. They found Foamsplash there, but she was a kit. A newborn, actually. So young she couldn't speak yet, so she didn't know her own name. She was alone, so she probably didn't even have a name. The questing cats took her back to the Clan." Skypaw looked at the black she-cat. She was chatting with Finchfeather.
"Let's stop here," she mewed, looking back at the apprentices. Tawnyrose looked pleased to be wherever they were. Foamsplash whispered something to Finchfeather. The black tom sighed and turned around.
"Skypaw. This is the FrostClan border. It's a great hunting area," he mewed halfheartedly. Skypaw gawked at the beautiful river separating the borders. It flowed calmly, its deep width unable to be spotted.
"Can I learned to swim?" Skypaw asked.
"No!" everyone but Tawnyrose yowled. Tawnyrose just shook her head quickly.
"FrostClan are the swimmers. FlameClan are the tree-climbers. DawnClan are the shadow-stalkers. BreezeClan are the fast runners. Those are to never be mixed, no matter what," Finchfeather snapped. Skypaw sighed.
"Ok. Then can I learn to climb trees?" she asked. Finchfeather hesitated. He probably didn't want to, but he didn't want to let Steamstar down. "Hm. Alright. But don't tell Snowmist," he said, the smallest hint of humor in his mew. Foamsplash nudged Finchfeather and whispered something to him again. Happiness actually glowed in his eyes. Happiness. Finchfeather. A combination no cat in FlameClan would expect to find—ever.
"We'll stay here. Finchfeather, you can take Skypaw to Cloud Pine. Good luck, Skypaw! Don't be an Appleheart! Which means...don't fall," Foamsplash mewed in her odd accent. Skypaw's eyes lit up. Cloud Pine! Wait until Sandypaw hears about this! She'll be so jealous. Maybe Finchfeather wouldn't be as bad as a mentor after all. Skypaw pranced along, Finchfeather close behind.
"Um, thanks for taking me here, Finchfeather," Skypaw mewed awkwardly. Finchfeather glared at Skypaw, pure hatred gleaming in his eyes.
"I'm only doing this since Foamsplash threatened to tell Steamstar about my apparent hatred of she-cats. Now go climb that tree and fall out of it. I'm telling you that as a mentor. Now do it!" he hissed. Skypaw backed away nervously.
"But how do I climb—"
"Figure it out!" Skypaw unsheathed her claws and dug them into the bark. She climbed up the tree and stopped at a thick branch. Finchfeather was so silent down there Skypaw thought he ha walked away. But of course, Skypaw thought, he wouldn't hesitate to do that.
When Skypaw made it back to camp, she noticed Tulipnose sharing tongues with Smokefur outside the medicine den. Tulipnose must be staying in the medicine den ever since the Mintblossom incident, Skypaw guessed. Sandypaw and her mentor sat outside the warriors' den chatting. Skypaw wished she had a mentor like Ghostwhisper. She glanced over at a beautiful calico she-cat walking through camp. Skypaw immediately recognized her as the she-cat guarding the camp when she tried to sleep in the warriors' den as a kit. The calico cat padded over to Sandypaw and Ghostwhisper. She brushed her muzzle against Ghostwhisper's. She sat down next to him and twined tails with him. Sandypaw mewed something then walked away. Skypaw approached them.
"Hi!" she mewed. The she-cat dipped her head in greeting.
"Why hello there Skypaw!" Ghostwhisper meowed happily.
"How's your training coming with Finchfeather?" the calico cat asked. Ghostwhisper purred in amusement.
"Appleheart, we already know what the answer is going to be—"
"It's awful! Finchfeather is horrible to me, and he's barely even training me! And worst of all, he says that—"
"She-cats are useless?" Appleheart guessed. Skypaw nodded quickly.
"Did you know he has a reason for saying that?" Ghostwhisper asked Skypaw.
"No! What is it?" Skypaw meowed excitedly. Appleheart and Ghostwhisper.
"So back when the three of us—me, her, and Finchfeather—were apprentices, Appleheart was—" Ghostwhisper let out a chuckle, "in love with Finchfeather. I mean Finchpaw. And Applepaw. So anyway, Finchpaw loved her back. And I loved her. So one day BreezeClan attacked since we had formed an enemy with them. I saved Applepaw's calico butt out there, so she fell in love with me. Finchpaw tried killing me, but of course Lilacstar didn't see that. Lilacstar was—"
"The leader before Steamstar, I know. And also Steamstar's litter mate. Go on," Skypaw interrupted. Ghostwhisper looked a little angry at the apprentice for interrupting, but he cleared his throat and continued.
"BreezeClan ran back to their Clan, so FlameClan won. Lilacstar makes the five of us warriors—"
"Five? I thought there was only three."
"Nope. Me, Appleheart, Finchfeather, Redwillow, and Softwind. So anyway, were made warriors, Appleheart moved into the nursery to have our kits, Turtlepelt dies—"
"Who's Turtlepelt?"
"Ahh! Stop interrupting! She's Steamstar's mate! Just quit the interrupting and stuff and let me tell the story!"
"Sorry."
"Ok. So Turtlepelt dies, Appleheart takes care of Brokenkit, Tulipkit, and Tinykit. So—"
"Who's Broken—"
"Turtlepelt's dead kit!!"
"Oh...ok."
"Ok, sorry. So Appleheart gives birth to Muddykit, Graykit, and Tawnykit. Yes, those are Muddytooth, Grayscar and Tawnyrose. So Finchfeather gets all mad and mates with Snowmist to try to make me jealous. I didn't know what he was thinking trying to make me jealous with her, because she was Redwillow's kit, and Redwillow is my litter mate, so I'm Snowmist's kin. So anyway, when Finchfeather realized I wasn't jealous, Snowmist had her kits. There were three toms and one she-cat, but only the she-cat survived. Finchfeather got mad that the toms died, so he developed a hatred of she-cats," Ghostwhisper finished. Skypaw nodded slowly. She glanced over at Finchfeather arguing with Snowmist. His story was a bit sad, but that made Skypaw hate him more. Sandypaw padded over to them.
"Oh, hey Skypaw! How's training coming?" she asked. Skypaw sighed.
"Well, my mentor's Finchfeather and the only cat who can keep him contained is Foamsplash because she has some weird connection with Steamstar so she can turn Finchfeather in. So training's going awful," she mewed. Sandypaw gave Skypaw's shoulder a few licks.
"Aw. Poor you. I wish you could have a mentor like Ghostwhisper. He's great! He let me have first pick in the fresh-kill pile!" Sandypaw mewed. Skypaw couldn't help but feel jealous. Finchfeather was a horrible mentor, and Foamsplash should just stop dangling it in front of his face and just turn him. Wait a second! Skypaw realized. I could just turn Finchfeather in myself! Skypaw said goodbye to Sandypaw and trotted over to the Tall Rock. She climbed it and entered the leader's den.
"Steamstar! I have something to tell you."
No notes, really. But I do like that chapter, I've been waiting to tell Finchfeather's story.
- Chapter 5:
- Steamstar turned around.
"What would you like to say to me, little one?" he asked. Skypaw glanced outside and spotted Redwillow guarding his den.
"Um, you can't exactly tell anyone else," she mewed quietly. Steamstar nodded slowly.
"Finchfeather isn't training me. He made me figure out how to climb trees by myself. He told me she-cats were useless, and he won't take me out of camp. Tawnyrose and Foamsplash just took me out and made Finchfeather come. Please believe me, Steamstar. Please," Skypaw meowed. Steamstar narrowed his eyes.
"I assigned you a mentor and you'll deal with it. Finchfeather is a loyal warrior and he'd do nothing like that. I can't believe you made up such a stupid story, Skypaw. I'm not happy with you. Now go clean the elders' den," he hissed. Skypaw sighed. How could he not believe me? Steamstar had a look in his eyes, but Skypaw couldn't detect what feeling. She padded out of the den and dipped her head respectfully as she passed Redwillow. Skypaw padded over to Sandypaw.
"Wanna grab some fresh-kill?" Sandypaw asked. Skypaw nodded sadly.
"What's wrong?" Sandypaw asked. Skypaw shook her head.
"Nothing." Sandypaw shrugged and grabbed a juicy rabbit.
"First pick out of the pile," she mewed happily. "Wanna share?" Skypaw brightened a bit and nodded. They padded into the apprentices' den. Lizardpaw and Icepaw were sharing tongues.
"Hey Landypaw!" Lizardpaw joked. Sandypaw hissed.
"You just won't let that go, will you?" she snapped, but there was a bit of humor in her mew. She set the rabbit down and took a huge bit out of it. Skypaw settled down next to her sister and grabbed the rabbit in her jaws and dragged it towards herself. Sandypaw hissed and batted at Skypaw's nose. They finished off the rabbit and walked out of the den. Ghostwhisper and Finchfeather were standing there.
"Patrol tomorrow," Finchfeather meowed carelessly and padded back to the warriors' den. Skypaw glanced inside and saw Foamsplash talking to Finchfeather, her claws unsheathed. Finchfeather rolled his eyes and laid down in his nest. Foamsplash also laid down next to him. Skypaw padded into the apprentices' den, where Icepaw and Sandypaw were grooming each other. Lizardpaw motioned for Skypaw to join him with his tail. She padded over to him.
"So...how's Finchfeather?" Lizardpaw asked. Skypaw nodded slowly.
"Awful. How's Smokefur?"
"Good. But sometimes he obsesses over Tulipnose and her kits." Skypaw purred in amusement.
"I'm not looking forward to having mates and kits. It seems weird to me," she mewed. Lizardpaw looked over at Icepaw.
"Uh, y-yeah, me neither," he stuttered. Skypaw noticed he was still looking at Icepaw when he said that. She knew what was going on inside Lizardpaw's mind, but she said nothing about it.
"It's getting late. Better get to sleep," Skypaw mewed. Lizardpaw nodded. Skypaw took a nest next to him. She closed her eyes, Lizardpaw's brown fur filling her mouth from time to time. She looked outside the den where the night sky glowed beautifully from the stars shining bright. Skypaw stood up and exited the apprentices' den. She let the breeze blow on her white fur. A scent filled her nose.
"Skypaw?" the voice mewed.
"Hi Softwind," Skypaw meowed. The golden brown tom padded over to Skypaw.
"What are you doing up this late?" the senior warrior asked. Skypaw shrugged.
"Couldn't sleep," she mewed. "So anyway. Were you the one who had Redwillow's kits? Ghostwhisper told me a story about Finchfeather, and he brought up Redwillow having a kit, so I was just wondering—" Softwind purred in amusement.
"Yes, I did. Snowmist is my kit. I must say I'm a bit disappointed that her mate is—"
"Finchfeather? I would be mad at my kit if she mated with Finchfeather, too." Softwind nodded.
"Anyway, I just wanted to go for a quick hunt. You wanna come?" he asked. Skypaw nodded. Softwind would be a way better mentor than Finchfeather, she thought. They padded out of camp. Skypaw looked up at Softwind.
"Where are we going?" she asked. Softwind shrugged.
"Depends. Where do you want to go?" Skypaw thought about it for a second.
"DawnClan border," she finally mewed. Softwind nodded.
"Alright. Have you been there yet?" he asked. Skypaw shook her head.
"Ok." They walked through the forest, the moon acting as their light. Suddenly, an unfamiliar scent filled Skypaw's nose. A disgusting smell.
"Yuck!" she croaked. Softwind purred in amusement.
"Get used to it. Because that's the smell of DawnClan," he meowed. The padded over to a group of FlameClan cats. Skypaw realized they were the midnight patrol.
"I'm just showing Skypaw the border because Finchfeather didn't bother enough to show her," Skypaw heard Softwind tell the patrol. Skypaw noticed Tinyflame, Grayscar, and Widowtail on the patrol. Widowtail hissed.
"Nonsense! Finchfeather probably didn't have enough time," he objected. Tinyflame rolled her eyes.
"He was probably too busy sleeping to care about Skypaw," she meowed.
"You lay off Finchfeather!" Widowtail snapped. He unsheathed his claws and launched at Tinyflame.
"Stupid she-cat!" he snarled.
"Call yourself a cat?" Tinyflame growled. Grayscar broke them apart and pinned Widowtail on the ground with his paw. Tinyflame sat up and began cleaning her blood-stained fur.
"Get a grip, you two!" Grayscar snapped.
"He's the one who attacked me. I was just defending myself," Tinyflame mewed. Grayscar turned to look at her. He said nothing, but narrowed his eyes.
"I'll let Steamstar know about this." Grayscar turned to Softwind and Skypaw.
"I'm sorry about all this. You can hunt now," he mewed. Softwind nodded.
"It's fine. Normal FlameClan, y'know?" Softwind joked. Grayscar let out a purr of amusement.
"Yep. Now go enjoy yourself!"
Skypaw followed Softwind towards the meeting place, Rock Valley. Rock Valley was where all four Clans met and gave news. Sagenose had told Skypaw about it when she was a kit. It was amazing— there were rocks piled near the corners, while near the front there were four huge boulders. That must be where the leaders speak—the Meeting Rocks. Not a very thought-through name, but still very cool! Skypaw thought. Softwind shook his pelt.
"Might wanna head back. Not much prey anywhere," he meowed, padding back towards the FlameClan camp. Skypaw followed him.
"Hey, Softwind? Will I be going to Rock Valley tomorrow?" she asked. The next meeting was tomorrow.
"Ok course! New apprentices always go to the meeting. Unless they're in trouble," Softwind mewed. Skypaw purred in satisfaction.
"So Sandypaw'll come too?"
"Not unless she gets in trouble."
"Oh." They reached camp.
"Well, goodnight." Softwind padded back to the warriors' den. Skypaw returned to the apprentices' den. She sat down next to Sandypaw. She sighed and laid down. But this time she fell asleep.
In Skypaw's dreams, a beautiful black she-cat came to her.
"Are you a StarClan cat?" Skypaw asked. The she-cat purred in amusement.
"No, sweetie. StarClan is for the softies. I'm from the dark forest," she mewed. Skypaw looked around. She and the black cat were surrounded by dark-colored trees and long, scratchy grass. There was no light except the moonshine peeking through the dark green leaves.
"I am Shadowsoul. I assume you've heard of me?"
"You! You're the one who killed Brightdapple and all those other innocent cats!" Skypaw unsheathed her claws. Shadowsoul purred in amusement.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, honey." She also unsheathed her claws and jumped on Skypaw.
"I don't recall you learning how to fight? Is it because...oh, right! You have Finchfeather as a mentor. I remember meeting him as an apprentice. Such an idiotic little one...reminded me of all the other idiots in StarClan and the dark forest, like Lavaspots and…me," she croaked. Skypaw felt pain sear through her body. What a mouse-brain I was to challenge her! she thought. Shadowsoul bit Skypaw's ear and guided her claws across the little white cat's belly. Skypaw yowled in pure pain.
"Fight back, you coward!" Shadowsoul rasped. (Harry Potter quote! WOOT WOOT ) Skypaw's mood turned from pain to rage.
"I'm not a coward!" She pushed Shadowsoul off of her with all the muscles she had and scratched her claws against the black she-cat's face. Shadowsoul suddenly merely pushed her off and sat up. The dark forest cat then began—grooming herself.
"Stick with me, kid, and you'll fight just as good as me," she mewed between licks.
"What?" Skypaw meowed, confused.
"Just go to sleep every night," Shadowsoul mewed halfheartedly. Skypaw stepped back a step.
"Um, ok, I'll try my best," she mewed.
"It's a deal." And with that, Skypaw woke up, pain and surprise surging through her. Sandypaw was sitting up next to her.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing. Just a bad dream," Skypaw mewed.
Hai.
- Chapter 6:
- Skypaw and Sandypaw sat near the exit of the camp, waiting for Finchfeather and Ghostwhisper.
"So we're going to the meeting tonight?" Sandypaw meowed. Skypaw nodded.
"Softwind showed me Rock Valley. I can't wait to meet new friends!" she mewed.
"But remember, you might have to meet them in battle someday," a voice mewed behind them. It was Ghostwhisper. Finchfeather was walking beside him.
"We better get going," the black warrior mewed. Skypaw and Sandypaw nodded and bounced out of camp.
"Where are we going?" Sandypaw asked.
"DawnClan border," Ghostwhisper meowed. Cool! I get to see it again! Skypaw thought. When they reached the awful-smelling Clan's border, Finchfeather lifted his nose.
"They've been intruding. Looks like they stole some prey, too. Better tell Steamstar and he'll probably mention it at the meeting tonight," he reported. Ghostwhisper nodded. Suddenly, Skypaw caught sight of a gray-pelted cat with a calico she-cat at his side.
"It's a DawnClan patrol. Better ask them why they're intruding," Finchfeather meowed.
"HEY LAWNCLAN! WHAT GIVES?" Sandypaw shouted at them.
"Sandypaw! Finchfeather didn't mean like that!" Ghostwhisper meowed, a bit of amusement glittering in his eyes. The patrol ignored her and continued forward. They stopped before reaching the FlameClan border. The gray tom whispered something to the she-cat. The she-cat nodded and jumped on Ghostwhisper.
"How about you tell ME what gives?" she hissed.
"What are you talking about? You're the one who's stealing prey," Ghostwhisper rasped. The she-cat narrowed her eyes.
"Then how do I explain the dead rabbit on our side of the border?" she mewed. Ghostwhisper looked concerned.
"I'm sorry about that, it must've been some mistake. But we caught sights and scents of your Clan on our side of the border," he meowed. The calico let Ghostwhisper go and she jumped back to her side of the border.
"What? None of our warriors stole prey, unless that was also a mistake. I'll talk to Stalkstar about it," she meowed. Stalkstar was leader of DawnClan. Ghostwhisper dipped his head.
"And I will inform Steamstar. I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name?" he mewed.
"I'm Blossomshade, and this is Weedfall. And you are?"
"Ghostwhisper. And this my apprentice, Sandypaw, and her sister, Skypaw, and Skypaw's mentor, Finchferher," Ghostwhisper meowed.
"He's being pretty friendly to this she-cat," Skypaw whispered to Sandypaw. Sandypaw nodded.
"Anyway, we better head to FrostClan border. Nice tackling you, Blossomshade," Ghostwhisper mewed. Blossomshade purred in amusement.
"Right back at ya. See you a the meeting tonight!" she meowed. Ghostwhisper was about to reply, but Finchfeather slapped his tail across his mouth.
"Yes, fancy knowing you. Now bye," he snapped. Ghostwhisper narrowed his eyes at Finchfeather and started towards the FrostClan border. He turned around.
"I'll be sure to tell Steamstar about the intrusions," he added in. Finchfeather checked Ghostwhisper lightly to the side and scolded him.
"Let's go already!" Sandypaw yowled. Ghostwhisper nodded and continued toward the FrostClan border. He looked back but Weedfall and Blossomshade were gone.
"You really hit it off with that she-cat, didn't you?" Skypaw dared to say. Ghostwhisper shot a rude look at her, but his gaze softened immediately.
"Yes, yes I did, Skypaw," he said humorously. Sandypaw purred in amusement. They walked along the territories of FlameClan, fresh smells the whole way. The patrol passed by a training session with Lizardpaw, Icepaw, Foamsplash, and Smokefur. Skypaw waved her tail in greeting. Icepaw responded in the same way. By the time they reached the FrostClan border, the FrostClan patrol was just leaving. It was a pale gray she-cat, a black tom, and a russet-colored she-cat. Sandypaw sniffed the air.
"Looks like there was no intrusions," she meowed. Ghostwhisper nodded.
"Good job, Sandypaw!" he commented. The pale gray she-cat looked behind her at the FlameClan patrol, but then continued forward.
"Then I guess we're done?" Skypaw guessed. Finchfeather nodded.
"We have time to nap before the meeting, too," he added in. Skypaw and Ghostwhisper rolled their eyes.
"Classic Finchfeather and his naps," Ghostwhisper mewed jokingly. Skypaw purred happily.
"C'mon, let's go," Sandypaw said. The patrol headed back to their camp. They passed by the training session again.
"Finchfeather! Steamstar wants us to train our apprentices tomorrow," Smokefur called. Finchfeather scowled, but then nodded.
"Fine," he snapped. They padded back into camp. Finchfeather immediately ran to the warriors' den to nap. Skypaw thought a nap would be a good idea, so she headed to the apprentices' den. It was empty since Icepaw and Lizardpaw were training and she saw Sandypaw enter the elders' den to help clean the nests. Skypaw settled down in her nest and closed her eyes, which guided her into a deep sleep.
Skypaw woke in the dark forest. Shadowsoul stood in front of her.
"Welcome back," she croaked, her voice cracking of old age. Skypaw twitched.
"What are you going to do to me?" she asked nervously.
"Oh, don't worry. I'm only going to train you to fight the right way," the black she-cat replied. Skypaw hesitated, unsure if she wanted to do this at all. But then you won't learn to fight, she thought. You know Finchfeather won't teach you. Then you'll be weak, and you want survive a second in any battle. Skypaw unsheathed her claws.
"I'm ready."
Skypaw woke from her dream when she realized someone was prodding her right where Shadowsoul had injured her. The "prodder" was Redwillow.
"Time for the meeting, sleepy head," she meowed. Her dark ginger fur glittered in the moonlight. Skypaw stood up. She walked outside and joined the group of cats going to the meeting. Steamstar stood at the head.
"Redwillow, did you get Skypaw?" he asked. The deputy nodded.
"Ok, then let's go!" The group started to walk towards the exit of the camp. Skypaw walked beside her father. He snorted.
"Huh. You. Finchfeather told me how awful you were doing during training," he scowled. Skypaw unsheathed her claws.
"I'm doing 'awful' in training because Finchfeather doesn't care enough to try to train me," she hissed. Widowtail unsheathed his claws as well.
"Then let's see how well you're doing in fighting," he threatened. Redwillow eyed them nearby.
"Cool it," she mewed a bit carelessly. Widowtail narrowed his eyes at her, but listened. Skypaw trotted over to Sandypaw, Lizardpaw, and Icepaw.
"Hey guys!" Skypaw meowed.
"Hey," Icepaw mewed.
Is it fun to meet new friends?" Sandypaw asked Lizardpaw. He nodded.
"We're almost there, too!" Icepaw added in. Skypaw purred in excitement.
"I can't wait!" she meowed. Icepaw nodded.
"We'll introduce you to some of our friends," she said. Steamstar suddenly stopped the patrol with a wave of his tail.
"We're here!" he yowled. The patrol walked through the rocky entrance. FrostClan and a Clan Skypaw had never seen before—probably BreezeClan—but DawnClan hadn't arrived yet. A black tom with the BreezeClan scent approached them.
"Hi Icepaw! Who are your friends?" he asked.
"This is Skypaw and Sandypaw. They just became apprentices a few days ago!" Icepaw replied.
"Hi there! I'm Rockpaw, I'm from BreezeClan," the tom meowed happily. Sandypaw waved her tail in greeting. Skypaw did the same.
"Wanna sit together?" Lizardpaw asked Rockpaw and Sandypaw. They both nodded. The three of them padded into the crowd and disappeared.
"C'mon, I'll introduce you to Lightstorm," Icepaw mewed, flicking Skypaw with her tail. As they walked through the crowd, Skypaw noticed DawnClan waltz in. Stalkstar had a smug look on his face and gave the other leaders a cold glare.
"Hi Lightstorm!" Icepaw's voice called. The white apprentice was talking to a golden brown older looked warrior.
"Skypaw, this is Lightstorm! She's from FrostClan," Icepaw meowed.
"Hello there!" Lightstorm mewed. Skypaw was about to say hello back, but someone bumped her.
"Hey, watch it!" the cat snapped. It was a brown tabby tom with FrostClan scent. He looked about apprentice-sized.
"You're the one who bumped into me," Skypaw hissed. The tabby narrowed his eyes.
"Just watch it next time, FlameClan," he hissed. Skypaw unsheathed her claws, but quickly remembered the truce for the meeting and sheathed her claws again. Suddenly, a large yowl broke out through Rock Valley.
"It's starting!" Lightstorm meowed. The tabby tom sat down next Skypaw. Skypaw glared at him, but said nothing. A beautiful silver she-cat stepped forward on one of the Meeting Rocks while the rest of the leaders sat closer to the back.
"That's Moonstar," Icepaw mewed. "She's leader of FrostClan."
"Cats of the Clans, please turn your attention to the Meeting Rocks!" Moonstar yowled. Everyone stopped chatting and looked over at the giant rocks.
"Thank you," the leader of FrostClan mewed. "FrostClan has been thriving with new warriors and apprentices. We're doing great. But one of our elders, Thornpelt, has joined StarClan." Yowls of despair erupted throughout the Clans.
"Anyway. Treepaw has ranked up once again and become a warrior. He's now known as Treewhisker," Moonstar mewed. Everyone looked over at a small tabby tom. That must be Treewhisker Skypaw thought. Some cats cheered for the new warrior.
"We also have two new apprentices," Moonstar continued. "Frogpaw," some cats cheered and looked over at ginger tom, "and Birchpaw." Some warriors looked over at the tabby who bumped into Skypaw. But no one cheered. Skypaw couldn't say she pitied him. Birchpaw looked at the ground and shuffled his paws. Skypaw let out a small, "hooray." Birchpaw looked over at Skypaw and nodded his thanks. Icepaw and Lightstorm also cheered a bit. Birchpaw blinked gratefully at them.
"That's all," Moonstar finished. "Steamstar, you may speak." Steamstar stepped forward as Moonstar stepped back.
"FlameClan has had some deaths. Mintblossom has given birth to three kits, but one didn't survive. Mintblossom went insane and we were forced to kill her. And two kits have become apprentices," Steamstar began. "Sandypaw and Skypaw." Skypaw dipped her head when many cats cheered. Even Birchpaw cheered.
"We've scented DawnClan hunting on our territory," Steamstar meowed. DawnClan warriors spat insults at Steamstar. "But we've been informed by another DawnClan patrol that FlameClan has been scented on their side of the border. So we're trying to solve that." DawnClan calmed down. "That's all," Steamstar mewed. "Stalkstar may speak now." Steamstar stepped back. Stalkstar stepped forward.
"DawnClan is doing great. Bluestripe has become an elder and Springpaw is now Springfall. We're well stocked on prey, and what Steamstar said about the prey stealing," he meowed. "That's it. Finally, Maplestar may speak." A russet-colored she-cat stepped into the light as Stalkstar returned to the shadows.
"BreezeClan is doing well. We have a new apprentice, Redpaw, and Sunleap has passed away. That's all. The Clans are dismissed," Maplestar spoke rather quickly, but no one said anything. Steamstar leaped off of his Meeting Rock. He gathered his Clan together and padded out of Rock Valley, leaving his Clan to follow. Skypaw was about to follow him, when she was stopped. It was Birchpaw.
"Hey, uhh...thanks for...uhh...breaking that silence when no one cheered," he meowed shyly. Skypaw shuffled her paws.
"It was nothing," she mewed. Birchpaw gave Skypaw's ear a lick.
"See you next meeting," he meowed. Skypaw padded over to the FlameClan cats ready to leave.
"Let's go!" Steamstar yowled. The FlameClan cats walked through the forest, the voices of the other Clans fading off into the distance the closer they got to camp. Skypaw noticed Finchfeather and Widowtail talking quietly near the back, while Appleheart scolded Ghostwhisper about something.
"We're only friends, please believe me!" Ghostwhisper was saying. Appleheart shook her head.
"No. It's obvious you don't care about me anymore. Maybe I just should've stuck with Finchfeather," she snapped, and walked away from the gray tom.
"What's wrong?" Skypaw asked Ghostwhisper. Ghostwhisper sighed.
"She saw me with Blossomshade. Now she thinks I'm meeting with her secretly!" he yowled. Skypaw didn't know what to say, so she just brushed Ghostwhisper's flank with her tail.
"I'm sorry," she meowed, and padded over to Sandypaw and Lizardpaw.
"Hey guys! How'd it go with Rockpaw?" Skypaw asked.
"Good," Lizardpaw replied.
"Great!" Sandypaw chimed in. Skypaw nodded.
"I met Lightstorm. She's a FrostClan senior warrior!" she meowed. She said nothing about Birchpaw.
"Cool. Hey, we're back to camp!" Sandypaw meowed. Sagenose was standing at the entrance.
"Steamstar! I'm glad you're here! Tulipnose is having her kits!"
Sorry about the long chapter. I had to fit in the meeting.
The rest of the fanfic is in the posts!

Re: The Battle of FlameClan (Fanfic)
At first I thought that this was an RPG. I would suggest adding to the topic name that it is a fanfic so that everyone knows before they open it or over look it. I might also recommend removing some of the unnecessary ling spaces because it sort of distorts my computer page and it makes the first post really long and it requires a lot of extra scrolling. Your spoiler code also didn't work but I'll read this later on tonight.

Thanks for the advice, Snow! At first I thought the spacing on the character thing would make it easier to read, but now that I think about it, you're right.

Re: The Battle of FlameClan (Fanfic)
Actually it might just be better to get rid of all the spacing all together and just bold the ranks and maybe underline the names without wasting so much space. That should also help to make everything easily readable and understandable. That's just my recommendation though since each post can hold only like 5,000-8,000 characters I think it was last time that I checked and it isn't being wasted on spacing that way.

Re: The Battle of FlameClan (Fanfic)
Very good! I only read chapter 1 so far, but I'll defintley be checking out more! It's intriguing to see that most of the Clan doesn't seem to get along.. I wonder why? However, I would check out this sentence...
It's very awkward and difficult to read. Also, you should write out the actual word of the number instead of it's symbol. It helps the story flow better, and when a stories flow is interrupted, it's harder for the reader to 'melt' into the writer's world and continue the adventure. Try something like this, "Skykit wasn't too thrilled to be hanging from a warrior's jaws, which were the size of two kits." On the other hand, I loved the part where Sandykit messed up Lizardpaw's name. Keep up the good work!Skykit wasn't too thrilled to be hanging in a warrior the size of 2 kits combine's jaws. wrote:

I like the 3 chapters I read, though chapter 3 was confusing.

I see how you'd think that. I reread a bit of chapter 3, and I could definately see where you would think it's confusing.

Re: The Battle of FlameClan (Fanfic)
Sorry it took WAY too long! Funny how Stareye and I finished our chapters in our fanfics at (almost) the same time! I'm gonna post the chapters in the topic now since "my post is too long" in the topic starter thingy. So...here it is!
DUN DUN DUN! Hoped you liked it, I spent a while on it. Sorry about the delay.
- Chapter 7:
- Skypaw fell as a few warriors stampeded her as they ran into camp.
"Apprentices to their dens!" a voice sounding like Redwillow's called. Lizardpaw stood Skypaw back up by grabbing the scruff of her neck. Skypaw grunted her thanks and padded into camp. Some yowling was coming from the nursery. Sandypaw pushed past her and hobbled into the apprentices' den. Someone's tired, Skypaw thought. She followed her sister into the den. Sandypaw was already asleep. Icepaw and Lizardpaw came in behind Skypaw. Lizardpaw took a bed in the corner. Icepaw settled next to him. Skypaw walked over to Sandypaw. She slumped onto her. The sandy-colored warrior hissed and batted her paw at the air, keeping her eyes closed, and squirmed around until Skypaw fell off. Skypaw was about to make a scene, but her sister's light snores showed that she's already fallen back asleep. Skypaw shrugged, laid down, and closed her eyes. Sleep pulled her in farther and farther until a paw poking her awakened her.
"What?" Skypaw snapped. It was Sandypaw poking her.
"Steamstar wants to talk to you," she meowed. Skypaw hauled herself up and trudged out of the den. She climbed up to Steamstar's den.
"Steamstar? You wanted to talk to me?" she mewed quietly. Steamstar turned around. The moonlight shone on his amber eyes. He looked unhappy.
"I saw you talking to Birchpaw," he said. Skypaw was confused. Was something wrong with Birchpaw?
"Was I not supposed to be talking to him?" she asked. Steamstar sighed.
"He's Eagleheart's kin. Eagleheart was a warrior in the past who murdered many, many cats. All FlameClan cats shun kins of Eagleheart, since he killed one of our past leaders, Sugarstar. When she was on her last life," he meowed. Skypaw gasped.
"How could he? Why?" she said in horror. Steamstar shook his head.
"No one knows why. Some say he was a misfit as an apprentice. Others just think he went crazy after his mate died," he meowed. "Anyway, you get the idea. I don't even want you to make eye contact with any kin of that excuse of a cat Eagleheart." Steamstar said the word "Eagleheart" like he was tasting a bit of rotten fresh-kill. Skypaw sighed.
"Ok," she mewed disappointedly, padding out of the leader's den. She reentered the apprentices' den, to see Sandypaw sitting there in the middle of the den.
"What did he want?" she asked. Skypaw hesitated.
"Just a patrol tomorrow," she lied. Why didn't I tell her the truth? It wouldn't really hurt, Skypaw thought. Sandypaw blinked.
"Boring! I kept myself awake to hear that you're going on a patrol tomorrow?" she meowed. Skypaw was about to reply, but her sister quickly laid down and began snoring heavily. Skypaw shrugged and curled up next to her. She yawned and closed her eyes, quietly praying to StarClan that she wouldn't go to the dark forest that night. She was too tired for training. Suddenly, another poke.
"What?!?" Skypaw snapped, perhaps too harshly. Appleheart stood over her, but she didn't look unhappy about Skypaw snapping at her. She probably didn't care.
"Skypaw. I saw Ghostwhisper walk out of camp by himself. I want to follow him. It seems a little weird to be stalking my mate at night, but I feel like he's secretly meeting with that DawnClan cat, Blossomshade. He seemed a little too friendly with her at the meeting. I want you to come with me because I know you were on the patrol with Ghostwhisper when he met her. I'd bring Finchfeather, but he's too cranky. Especially around me," Appleheart said quickly.
"What about Sandypaw? Why aren't you bringing her?" Skypaw asked. Appleheart said nothing. They padded out of the apprentices' den. Redwillow was guarding camp.
"Just going out for a hunt with Skypaw," Appleheart lied to Redwillow. Redwillow simply nodded and remained by the entrance of the camp. Once they were out of Redwillow's view, Appleheart raced in the direction of DawnClan border. Ghostwhisper and Blossomshade's scents filled Skypaw's nose as she followed Appleheart. When she caught up to her, Appleheart was staring in Ghostwhisper's direction. She looked anything but happy. Ghostwhisper sat there sharing fresh kill with Blossomshade.
DUN DUN DUN! Hoped you liked it, I spent a while on it. Sorry about the delay.

Re: The Battle of FlameClan (Fanfic)
- Chapter 8:
- Appleheart said nothing. Neither did Skypaw. Appleheart unsheathed her claws and walked back to camp, claws still unsheathed. Skypaw was still staring at Ghostwhisper and Blossomshade. She couldn't stand to see Appleheart upset. She was only happy with Ghostwhisper. Skypaw ran over to the two cats sharing fresh-kill. Blossomshade's eyes widened and backed up onto her territory. Ghostwhisper dropped the fresh-kill.
"Don't tell - "
"Appleheart? She knows. She came. But she walked away. She couldn't bear the pain. No, sir, she did not. I expect you want to finish your fresh-kill alone?" Skypaw felt proud about saying that, but a little guilty. Ghostwhisper looked angry at Skypaw, but she could see the nervousness in his eye.
"Skypaw, you and I will go back to camp and not say a word to each other on the way. Agreed?" he mewed. Skypaw nodded. Blossomshade backed up.
"Goodbye, Blossomshade," Ghostwhisper meowed sadly. She dipped her head.
"I hope we can see each other again soon," she replied. Skypaw unsheathed her claws.
"You may never see this excuse of a cat again!" she snapped at Ghostwhisper. Yes, good. Turn them against each other. Show them who's the boss here... a voice not even close to Skypaw's hissed in her head. It sounded old. Seasons and seasons old. It was Shadowsoul's voice, influencing her. Skypaw felt angry at the old cat. But she liked this. Yelling at a senior warrior and not getting in trouble. Ghostwhisper and Skypaw padded back to camp, complete silence between the both of them. The scent of the entire camp being awake filled Skypaw's nose. This wasn't good. When they entered, Skypaw pretended to act casual. But it was pretty tough being casual when the entire Clan is staring at you. Everyone crowded in the center of the camp, and Appleheart and Steamstar seemed to be leading them. Skypaw knew what this was about. And she was pretty sure the rest of the Clan did, too.
"I can explain," Ghostwhisper meowed. Appleheart padded up to him. She looked him straight in the eye and unsheathed her claws. With the swipe of a paw, she left a deep gash on Ghostwhisper's cheek.
"Explain, then," Appleheart snapped. Ghostwhisper winced at both her harsh tone and his cut.
"We were discussing how prey was being stolen on both our sides of the territory over a mouse," he said quietly. Hisses of anger came from FlameClan. Even Skypaw shook her head at the gray tom. Steamstar quieted them.
"Continue," he said calmly. Ghostwhisper sighed.
"The both of us thought that rogues were stealing prey, since there was a faint scent - "
"We don't care about your theories about small details! Tell us about your betrayal," someone who sounded like Tinyflame called from the crowd. Ghostwhisper gulped.
"We met on a patrol. She was pretty nice, so we were talking during the meeting. We planned on meeting on the border to talk about it. We weren't eating the fresh-kill, we were sniffing it for any scents," he whispered. Appleheart shook her slowly. Her eyes weren't filled with so much anger anymore. They still were, but not as much.
"But...why? With another Clan cat? Why not with me? Or your apprentice?" she mewed, looking over at Sandypaw.
"I - I'm sorry, Appleheart - "
"It's too late to apologize, Ghostwhisper. You know what the punishment for letting other cats cross the border in peace. And for the second time!" Appleheart meowed, looking over at Steamstar. Skypaw looked at him too. A second time? she thought. I wonder what happened the first time. Steamstar sighed and nodded.
"You betrayed the warrior code in the worst way, Ghostwhisper. I'm sorry. We're going to have to kick you out of the Clan," he said sadly. Skypaw and Sandypaw gasped.
"But Steamstar, you can't!" Sandypaw cried.
"I'm afraid I have to, small ones. We'll find you a new mentor," the leader said, giving Sandypaw's head a few comforting licks.
"Of course, Steamstar," she sighed.
"Appleheart, please escort Ghostwhisper out of camp. And Tinyflame, I believe you're in need of an apprentice?" Steamstar mewed, looking over at the little white she-cat. Appleheart walked out of camp with Ghostwhisper at her tail. Tinyflame nodded quickly.
"Good. Sandypaw, please step up," Sandypaw stepped up as directed. "By the power of StarClan, I name Tinyflame mentor of Sandypaw!" Steamstar yowled. Sandypaw dipped her head and gave Tinyflame's shoulder a lick. So it's just as simple as that, Skypaw thought. Kick a cat out of the Clan and get a new mentor for its apprentice. Gee, I better watch where I put my paws!
Sorry about the bad chapter ending -.- I couldn't find a better way to end it. Anyway, thanks to everyone who's been reading this! I'm sorry I haven't had the time to write as much. But thanks for sticking with Skypaw the whole way!

I like it! I wasn't quite expecting Ghostwhisper to get exiled. Greystripe wasn't.
- Don't read unless you have read Fire and Ice and Forest of Secrets!!!!:
- Silverstream had a relationship with Greystripe in Fire and Ice, and she died while kitting in Forest of Secrets.
