Icestarr's Craft Corner
Welcome to Icestarr's Craft Corner!
Hey everyone! So recently I have been really obsessed with DIY (Do It Yourself) crafts and little projects for around the house, so I started a topic for it! Its still under construction a little, so hang tight! I'm hoping to put together a craft of the week with my results, and then whoever wants to can try to do the craft too and we can compare results. Last week I was obsessed with T-shirt alterations, so maybe I'll do that in an upcoming week. So without further ado, the craft I have been working tirelessly on this week is... cheap bracelet restoration!
RESULTS:
Next week's topic:
Friendship Bracelets!
Future Ideas:
[spoiler] T-shirt cutting
[/spolier]
Also if anyone wants to recommend a topic or project for next week you can post a request either on here or you can PM me.
Happy crafting!
Icestar

- Old Bracelet Restoration, week of 6/24/13:
I have these bracelets I've had since eighth grade. I wear them pretty much everyday. My friends and I used to wear them before important tests as good luck, and as a result got a lot of use from multiple people wearing them. They used to be silver beads, but the silver enamel wore off and were just brownish underneath, so I decided to repaint them after reading an article about the different uses of nail polish, one of which was using the nail polish to repaint old jewlery. The great thing about nail polish is it's cheap, dries fast, and if coated in a top coat, is pretty durable. Basically right now I'm just working on the basic color schemes of each bracelet, but its taking a while because I have to sit down and paint them, but then wait for them to dry, and I've been babysitting a lot so I haven't been home. But anyways I'll try to have them done and put a picture up by Sunday, and in the meantime if anyone wants to attempt the craft feel free to share pictures of what you're working on! You can use old bangles or tab bracelets you make yourself. Heck, you can paint earrings and hairclips too. You can pretty much paint anything.
*DISCLAIMER/WARNING* Don't use any jewlery you don't personally own. If it looks expensive, DON'T PAINT IT! Check with your parents if needed. If you don't have any old jewlery you can go to a craft store and find stuff, or to a cheap thrift shop or something. I got my bracelets from Aeropostale, but I bet you could find stuff at Forever 21 or other random shops in the mall. Paint on top of a paper towel. keep nail polish away from pets. For any damages that occur, Icestar of ShadowClan is not responsible and will not reimburse your money.

- Final Analysis:
- Ok, so first things first. Nail poilsh makes a great finish, is durable, and is quick to dry. However I don't think my bracelets turned out so well, haha. It was hard to make the huge nail polish brush paint just one tiny bead. If you have the option, I would recommend painting each individual bead and then making them into a bracelet so the colors don't mix. My bracelet was pre-made, so I didn't have this option, but next time I will consider painting beads individually. The hair clips were pretty cool, though. You can paint them to match your outfits or nails, and I'm planning on making a ton more. I made some for my mom, and she liked them. I tried using the crackle nail polish on a few, and they looked freaking cool. So I would recommend doing those.

Hehe I'm not a very good artist so I think I'm just gonna stick to DIY projects in my corner. I could try to do a collage or something though. I'll brainstorm ideas.

Thanks I actually love making bracelets so maybe I'll do that in an upcoming week. I don't know what the braided ones are called but I could attempt them haha. Usually if I make a friendship bracelet I use the 'Spiral Staircase' method but I can do a bunch of tutorials since bracelets don't take that long.

The bracelets were made of like charm bead kind of things. Maybe they were a type of metal? I'm not really sure. Hopefully I'll post some pics tomorrow The bracelets didn't turn out that well but I did some hair clips and a key and they looked cool so I'll post those too.
EDIT: Results are up! If it's hard to see, click on the picture and it opens in a new tab full-size. I know a few of the pics got cut off
