PROLOUGE

Night had fallen as nothing stirred in a clearing with one tree in the middle of it.Suddenly, the silence was broken by a growl as many cats slipped out of the bushes on one side of the clearing.The lead cat,a jet black cat with a white underbelly,hissed a comand and some of the cats began climbing the tree.Before they had gone more than halfway up,Other cats began to emerge from the other side.The leader,A brown tom,growled."You don't belong here.Get out of here or be attacked,Darkshadow."The cat named darkshadow dipped his head and sneered."Brownstar,we both know that your clan is much weaker than mine.surrender this part of your territory,or suffer defeat."With a flick of his tail in signal,Brownstar jumped on Darkshadow and yowled to the air."It is you who will suffer in defeat!"Suddenly,the whole clearing was alive with growling and writhing cats.In the middle,A Black she-cat was pinned down by Darkshadow, when Brownstar jumped on him and made Darkshadow roll off of her."Do you always pick on someone smaller than you? you too weak for a fight against me?"He challenged,and jumped on Darkshadow.Later during the battle,a red cat with green eyes ran up to Darkshadow."We are losing,we must retreat."Darkshadow sighed."You are right."He jumped onto a little hill close to the end where he had first arrived."WINDCLAN!!!!!RETREAT!!!!!!"All his cats broke away from the other cats and ran away into the bushes.

A cat sat alone in the middle of the camp,looking at the stars.A Brown cat with black spots walked up to the cat."All the cats are sleeping,Hawkstar.They grieve the lose of Owlfeather."The cat turned."I thought We could win this.We need more territory if we are to survive leafbare,Ashpelt."Ashpelt dipped his head."Are you looking to the stars for answers?"Just then,a heavy wind blew, and Thunder sounded in the distance.Ashpelt went rigged with shock,and calmed down after a few heartbeats."It was a sign.When Thunder rides after the Wind,the clan will be safe."Hawkstar dipped his head."If you say so,I do not doubt you,Ashpelt.My clan has a chance to be saved."






CHAPTER ONE



Leaves brushed his face as Thunderkit pounced on the mouse."Gotcha!"he exclaimed, only to screech in surprise as a weight landed on him, shoving him to the ground."Hand over the prey."His brother, Windkit whispered in his ear.Dropping the prey, he heaved upward, throwing Windkit off."As if I would,"Thunderkit said, and pounced for Windkit.In midair, He collided with Nightkit.Flarekit padded up as Nightkit got up.Brothers, and one moon older, they towered over him."Hehehe, you really are weak,"Nightkit tounted, batting Thunderkit away.Thunderkit jumped up and mewed to Windkit,"They'll steal the prey!Get them!"Windkit pounced on Flarekit, and Thunderkit pounced on Nightkit.He fought with all four paws, doing moves Stormcloud had tought him.Soon Nightkit screeched in a mocking voice."Oh no,we give up."He Shoved Thunderkit off, as did Flarekit with Windkit.Windkit looked at Thunderkit."Don't worry, when one of us is leader, he won't dare do that to us."Thunderkit grinned at the thought.Leader, like Hawkstar.He had always wanted to be leader, ever since his mom had told him why the were named what they were named.They were named from the Thunder that had announced his birth and the wind that was blowing very hard that day, on the battle against Riverclan.His clan had lost, but they had taken territory from Thunderclan territory to survive leafbare.They still had that territory.He wished he had seen the battle to win the territory, but his mom had said that there would be plenty of battles he would see.










CHAPTER TWO



Thunderkit was excited.He and his brother were to become apprentices today. He could see Windkit shivering with excitment. He thought of the day before, when their mom had told them they were about to be apprenticed.Their father, Stormcloud, poked his head into the nursery."It's time,"He said, and disappeared back out.Their mother, Tangleclaw, licked them one more time, and led the way out.In the clearing, all the clan was assembled. Tangleclaw led them to the Highrock.Hawkstar, the leader, was standing on the Highrock.He looked down at the to be apprentices."Windkit." Hawkstar called, beconing Windkit forward.Windkit excitedly stepped forward."From this day until you receive your warrior name, you will be Windpaw."All the apprentices called his name.Hawkstar waited till the noise died down then said,"Shadowing.You will be Windpaw's mentor.You taught Mousewhisker, and he is a great warrior.I expect you to pass on all you know to this apprentice."Windpaw stepped forward and touched noses with his new mentor.Now Thunderkit was alone, waiting for Hawkstar's choice."Thunderkit."Hawkstar announced.Thunderkit slowly stepped forward."From this day until you receive your warrior name, you will be Thunderpaw."Thunderpaw shivered in excitement as the apprentices called his name. Hawkstar stared at him for a moment before speaking again."Mousewhisker."Mousewhisker looked just as excited as Thunderpaw."You have been mentored by Shadowing, and I expect you to pass on all that you learned to Thunderpaw."Thunderpaw walked over to his new mentor and touched noses with him.












CHAPTER THREE



Thunderpaw and Windpaw sat beside the apprentice den, sharing a rabbit.It had been four moons since their apprentice ceremony, and they were doing well.After they finished, Thunderpaw looked at Windpaw."What are you doing today? I'm going on border patrol with Mousewhisker, Antfur, and Thornpaw.Then me and Mousewhisker are going hunting."Thunderpaw announced happily.Windpaw looked at him."I get to do battle training with Nightpaw AND Flarepaw."He said.Thunderpaw let out a mrrrooooow of laughter."Oh, I guess your getting the highest honor."Thunderpaw mused.Windpaw glared at Thunderpaw, which soon turned into a stifled laugh.He got up and stretched."Well, Flarepaw and Nightpaw won't fight themselves, though I wish they would, so I'd better get going."He said, and with a shake, trotted out of camp.Thunderpaw got up and stretched too.I’d better get going too.Thunderpaw thought, and walked to the entrance, where Mousewhisker, Antfur, and Thornpaw were waiting.

Thunderpaw trotted into camp with Mousewhisker, laden with freshkill and tired.They deposited his prey on the freshkill pile and, taking a rabbit, walked over to where Windpaw sat.”You have fun with Flarepaw and Nightpaw today?”Thunderpaw asked as he sat down beside Windpaw.Windpaw grinned as he looked up at Thunderpaw.”Actually, it was great.I did that Feint leap we practiced, you know, the one we made up?They fell for it!”He finished and laughed.”Then I jumped on Flarepaw and kicked Nightpaw.Snowpelt was empressed.She said that she had never seen anything like it.”He paused, and then added” How about you?”Thunderpaw thought and said,”Well the Riverclan border is safe, and the hunting is good, so I had a pretty calm day, except for an exhilerating run for a rabbit.”Windpaw looked at him.”Guess I’ve had a better day than you then huh?”
