Alphas: The alphas are the most dominant wolf of either gender of the pack. The alpha male or female do not act as functional leaders of the pack but instead simply have the most freedoms while the rest of the pack follow them. The alphas form a mating pair and are typically the only ones allowed pups though there are rare occasions where an alpha will mate with a subordinate wolf though those pups do not usually survive the first year due to lack of the packs support.
Betas: Acting as a "middle class" the pack's beta male and female tend to enforce their rank in the pack more often than the alphas. They are the ones to keep the social hierarchy of their family group in order and are submissive only to the alphas. If a situation ever occurred where an alpha died, became ill was severely injured or was simply too old to act as alpha any longer they would challenge to assert their role as the new alpha.
Subordinates:

Omega (Loner)- The Omega wolf is the lowest ranking wolf in the pack (either male of female though there is usually there is only one). They bare the brunt of the packs aggression which typically leads to either serious injury or to the death of the Omega, if they have not already chosen to leave their pack. They keep a puppy like mentality throughout their life which is why they are often left behind to watch the pups while the other wolves take care of marking the territory and hunting.

Pups- The foundation of the next generation, the pups of the pack are cared for strictly by their mother (usually the alpha female) for the first month of their life, then they are introduced and accepted into the pack by the rest of the wolves. After the first month passes it becomes every wolf's duty to protect and care for the pups. The first 12 weeks of their life will be spent in the pack's living quarters. Afterwards, the members of the pack will escort them around the territory while the pups explore. By 8 months they are generally full grown, are working to establish their place in the pack, and join in on the hunts and marking the territory.
