Applefur and Rockpaw

Applefur blinked open her eyes to see the sun just beginning to rise. "Its dawn. Better go wake up Rockpaw." She whispered. Since she had slept under the stars today with a couple other warriors she got to her paws and carefully stepped over them in the direction of the Apprentice's den. She poked her head into the den and called, "Hey Rockpaw! Wake up! Its time to start training!"

Rockpaw opened her eyes and stretched. "Coming Applefur," she walked out of the den. "So what are we gonna do today? Battle or hunting?" she questioned. She bounced up and down in excitement.

Applefur smiled. "Glad to see your awake. Lets start with hunting." She decided. Applefur flicked her tail in signal to follow her. Once she padded over to the entrance of the camp she smirked. "First off lets see if you can keep up." Applefur mewed. Without waiting for an answer, she shot out of camp unsheathing her claws for a better grip.

Rockpaw darted after her mentor her claws also unsheathed, trying to copy Applefur as she ran. She caught up to her and Rockpaw moved to the left so that she wouldn't run into her.

Applefur smiled as she watched Rockpaw run right beside her. She looked down the young cats paws to see her claws unsheathed. Great, she learns quick. Applefur thought. She slowed down to a spot to face Rockpaw. "So, nice job on keeping up. The reason your claws are unsheathed is to get a better grip and its a lot easier to run. So lets move on to hunting. Our main source of prey is rabbits so of course we'll start with catching them. Show me your hunters crouch?" Applefur mewed sitting down and resting her tail on top of her paws. She blinked her soft aqua eyes patiently.

Rockpaw nodded and crouched down. She had her body down and her tail up. She knew it wasn't perfect, and there were some mistakes, but she knew Applefur would correct them. ( She looked like this : )

Applefur nodded for a moment looking at the young apprentice's crouch. "There are a couple mistakes but it looks pretty good. Try to keep your tail pointed like a stick, and not wiggling in the air." Applefur suggested, gently lowering Rockpaw's tail down. "Now make sure it's stick straight. Also try shifting your weight to your hind paws so you can creep forward silently then have a boost when you run at the prey." She finished, making sure Rockpaw was in perfect position.

"Okay I think I have it now." Rockpaw was in the proper hunting crouch, with her tail straight and her weight on her hind paws. She noticed a rabbit and asked, "Can I try to catch that rabbit, Applefur?"

Applefur looked up in the direction Rockpaw was looking at. Sure enough there was a rabbit or soon to be prey. She smirked. "What a coincidence!" She mewed. Looking back at Rockpaw she added, "Go ahead and catch it. Make sure your downwind by the way." Applefur mewed. She padded away and hid behind some nearby heather.

Rockpaw tested the wind. She moved to where she was downwind. She crouched down, putting all her weight on her hind paws and made sure her tail was straight. She darted toward the rabbit and before it had time to react, she killed it with one blow. She smiled triumphantly. "That was easy!" she meowed.

Applefur emerged from her cover and padded back up to her apprentice. "Great job Rockpaw! That was an excellent catch!" Applefur praised. She looked up to see the sun slowly setting. "Lets hunt a little more and get back to camp." She decided. Applefur quickly scanned the moorlands seeing a large rock. "Meet me by that rock. Sound good?" Applefur mewed turning back to her apprentice.

"It does sound good," Rockpaw meowed, looking at the rock, then back at Applefur. She dashed off in search of more rabbits. She immediately found one. After she was downwind, she got into her hunters crouch and leaped at it. She killed it with one blow and went in search for more.

Applefur sprinted away in the opposite direction of Rockpaw. She dropped into a hunters crouch when she scented nearby rabbit. She made sure she was downwind and crept forward. Seeing the rabbit she silently padded forward. Putting her weight on her hind paws she sprung forward. The rabbit started running but it was far too late. Applefur leaped on top of it and gave it a quick killing bite. She buried her rabbit and looked around to see a bird in the distance. Applefur dropped into a hunters crouch and crept forward once more. Seeing nearby heather she hid behind it and padded forward silently. The bird was too focused on trying to get a worm from the ground. Applefur raced forward and the bird took flight. Applefur quickly leaped as high as she could into the air. She caught the bird with her claw and brought it down giving it a swift killing bite. Applefur looked around some more and caught a small rabbit. She thanked StarClan for all the prey she had caught and padded back to her bird and rabbit, retrieved them, and headed for the large jutting rock. She scanned the moors trying to look for Rockpaw.

Rockpaw caught two more rabbits and started to head back toward the rock. On the way she dig up all three rabbits and soon saw Applefur at the rock. She started running. Her mouth stuffed with rabbits, she meowed, "Applefur, Applefur! Look what I caught!"

Applefur dropped her catch and saw Rockpaw racing toward her. Oh good she's back
Applefur thought. Once Rockpaw got closer, Applefur gasped in shock. She was carrying 3 large rabbits. "Oh my StarClan! Incredible job Rockpaw! Im extremely impressed!" Applefur purred. "That totally beats my catch!" Applefur mewed with a chuckle looking over at her rabbit, a large bird, and a tiny rabbit. Turning back to Rockpaw she purred. "Rockpaw you can sleep in tomorrow and once we get back to camp you can have the best piece of prey we can find in the fresh kill pile! You deserve it!" Applefur mewed happily. She was so impressed with Rockpaw's performance today. The young she cat learnt quickly.

Rockpaw dropped her rabbits. "Yay! Thank you Applefur! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" she purred. She bounced happily around in circles, then went back to the rabbits. She picked them up and started to go back to camp, but then stopped and turned to her mentor. "Are you coming, Applefur?" she asked.

Applefur laughed. "Yeah, just thinking about what battle moves to teach you tomorrow." She said winking. She picked up her prey and quickly padded to Rockpaw's side. Applefur looked up to see the sun just about to disappear behind the moors. The stars were faint yet looked as beautiful as ever. Soon they came to the entrance of camp. "Alright go ahead and get something to eat." Applefur mewed, her voice muffled by her prey.

Rockpaw padded over to the fresh kill pile and put her rabbits there. She then chose a plump bird, and went to the apprentice's den to eat. When she finished her bird, she curled up in her nest and fell asleep.

Honeyleaf walked over to applefur. "Applefur, your doing a great job. I was out hunting and I saw you working with Rockpaw, your an amazing mentor, keep up the good work!" The Honeyleaf walked off to converse with Viper

(Honeyleaf, it's best not to post in 'dead' or inactive topics, since it's unlikely they will start again. Applefur is Birdflight now, by the way, and Rockpaw is probably a warrior.)
