A Dark Path
Chapter 1
The tabby raced across the pine needles, ingoring the pain in her leg. Her purple eyes winced in pain as she stepped on a rock, but she didn't dare stop. The pain was sent up her leg, and she pulled the tiny rock out. A trail of blood followed, but she kept running. She could hear loud, thumping paws behind her. She forced herself to keep going, to keep running. Finally, she made it to rolling plains. She saw a patrol of cats, and raced the other way. "Hey, get out of our territory! Get lost," A black tom with icy blue eyes yowled. The tabby heard the pawsteps stop and say, "Get back to the Den." She nodded her head, and raced back. She saw the usual. Whisper messing around with herbs, and Abduction bringing in prey. Whisper was the Herb Master, Abduction the Hunter, and Tiger the Killer.
Tiger smiled warmly, "Hey, guys." Abduction and Whisper didn't dare say a word. Tiger laid down on her deer-fur nest, and immediately fell asleep. She had a dream of a beautiful tabby with aqua blue eyes licking her. Oh, and her eyes had just opened. The beautiful tabby hid her away as a massive tabby with evil amber eyes appeared. He just snorted, and left again. The tabby picked her up by her scruff, and ran out. Suddenly, she got thrown. She heard a scream of pain, and blood splatter next to her. Tiger woke up with a start, the fur on her spine rose. I know those eyes.... Tiger thought. Suddenly, Tiger screamed as she saw those same amber eyes glowing back at her in admiration. She realized they were Master's. "I'm gonna help Abduction with hunting. Whisper could come along and gather herbs," Tiger fought to keep her voice steady. Whisper and Abduction followed her out. "What is it?" They asked at the same time. "He-he killed Mother. He killed many cats. We have to get out of here!" She kept her voice to a panicky whisper. "Okay," Abduction whispered. "Let's go! I know where we can go," Tiger started as a slow run, in case Master came back.
Tiger stopped running, and panted. "There's no way he can catch us now," Abduction smiled. Tiger lapped water from a crystal-like pond of water. Abduction and Whisper joined in, not even saying a word they were so thirsty. "I'm gonna go look for camp," She started to pad away. "Wait! No!" Whisper pleaded, her blue eyes as big as moons, "You're the only one who can fight." "Fine...Come with me," Tiger stopped so they were right next to her.
She looked everywhere for a place that wasn't occupied by other animals. Everywhere seemed to be an animal, and she was tired of hearing "Aww" from Whisper. She saw a tree with a hole big enough to keep at least two cats in it. "There! We'll stay there," Tiger climbed up the tree, and pulled Whisper and Abduction up. They curled up in the hole, "What about you?" Whisper asked. "I'll watch gaurd up here." Tiger climbed a few branches above the hole, and sat down, cleaning her silky pelt. The moonlight seemed to make her fur shine even brighter. She licked her lips and realized how thirsty she was. Her lips were cracked and from licking them they started to bleed. "They'll be fine," She murmured as she padded away to find some water.
She took one last lick from the pond, and darted her head up as she heard screams. She immediately ran back to the tree, her heart beating. She saw dogs yelping and running back, and realized what a mistake she had made when she saw her brother's mangled body on the floor.
Chapter 2
Tiger fell next to Abduction, tears treaming from her eyes to his pelt. Whisper appeared next to Tiger, "I hate you." Tiger looked up, into those familiar blue eyes, to find no wavering, no sign that she was lying. "I do, too," Tiger managed to croak out inbetween her tears. Whisper growled, "If it weren't for you, Abduction would still be here!" "C-can you try to-to help him?" Tiger pleaded. Whisper pushed Tiger out of the way, "I need your help. I can't do anything unless his pelt is at least not as matted as this. Clean his pelt." Tiger immediately began to clean his pelt, using moss with water to clean the blood off, and untangling the matted areas. Whisper pushed Tiger out of the way again, and began to work. Tiger sat behind her, watching anxiously.
Tiger blinked open her still heavy eyes, and shut them again as the sun shone through, brightly as ever. She slowly blinked them open again and again, allowing her eyes to adjust to the sunlight. She stretched her long legs, digging her claws into the soft, brown earth. Her side hurt badly, and she realized she must have fallen off the tree branch where she kept gaurd. She got up, not without a grunt, though. She climbed up the tree, digging her claws in, fighting to keep herself up. She jumped on the branch, and gave a deep breath. She remembered what happened last night. "Wait...that must have been a dream!" Tiger yelped with joy.
