RiverClan: Strong in the Water

Intruders, Spicepaw? Are you sure? Ah, there's only one cat. You're no Clan cat are you, stranger? You carry the scent of the forests and moors and mountains all in one. What's your name? Well then, Skye, tell us why you are here. Don't be frightened by our numbers; we mean no harm to those who mean no harm to us.

You've come to join us? A fine choice, I must say. Why have you picked us out of the other Clans? You are already knowledgeable of our customs and StarClan it seems. Shush, Spicepaw, it's not because of your well-known tomato chili. Or your pepper salmon. Excuse my young apprentice. He has a fondness for cooking and a tongue for interrupting. Please, do continue.

So you have heard about our unique skill with the water, and our prowess in battle. But that is not everything about RiverClan. Other Clans scorn us for our glossy fur and well-fed warriors, our tendency to be half-fish, half-cat. But it's easier to laugh and ridicule than to admit their fear and our advantage over them all. ThunderClan, ShadowClan, and SkyClan have their trees and their climbing, their home among thick brambles, prickly bracken, and large ferns. WindClan has their speed and the moor, but how can you run so fast in crowded undergrowth, or through marshes and over slick pebbles? Any cat with long legs and a lean build can match them in their running and agility. Us RiverClanners hold an unique advantage over them all. We are clever and graceful, not stubborn and lazy like others say. Those cats hate the water, although I'll never understand. Fishing is a skill that can only be taught. Our lightning fast reflexes help us scoop fish from the bank, and you'll get your meal with just a flash of silver scales and claws. If you have the skill. Only after eating fish for several moons can your fur grow as thick as ours, able to shed water like duck's feathers. The ability to swim is bred into us, our love for the water and all it represents. The river provides us ample food in leaf-bare, while other Clans grow weak with hunger. We have the Star Rock, and the Graekida, and Sunningrocks too. We even have-- no! Spectre isn't an enemy! He may be a dog, but he has never harmed a cat. That was a friend to RiverClan that is. Cease, my old friend, and sit back down. You're two times bigger than us, Spectre, and your enthusiasm is almost frightening.

Ah, I suppose I should warn you of Shamu. He's an orca, the predator of the sea, able to swallow a cat up in a single snap! No need to be so terrified, Skye! Like Spectre, Shamu is loyal only to RiverClan, an old friend. He doesn't come up the river often, as he prefers the open sea, but he returns every once in a while.

Yes, Skye, RiverClan is interesting. We don't have thick foliage or dense undergrowth to hide behind, but our secrets are hidden well, with surprises around every corner. If it is truly your decision to become part of our family, then come...

Once you prove loyalty and your worth, RiverClan will be able to announce a new warrior at the next Gathering. Forgive our cautiousness with loners. Our warriors are no fools, and it is better to be safe than sorry. Tomorrow, you will meet us all, and we will show you around the territory.

RiverClan is one of the five original Clans, and they consider StarClan as their warrior ancestors. RiverClan warriors are known for their amazing skill at fishing and love for water. They also love beautiful things, and are known to collect rocks, shells, and feathers to decorate their dens. Their prey is mainly fish, but they can also eat water voles, shrews, and mice. They are contented, sleek, well-fed cats with well-groomed fur.

RiverClan cats are clever and strong. They have quick-witted minds and lightning fast reflexes. Their love for water and swimming give them a great advantage over any other Clan, as most other cats dislike and fear water greatly.

When RiverClan cats set their mind on something, they will stop at nothing to get it. Intelligent and wily, strong and proud, they strive to make their Clan powerful. They form a tight-knit community, the closest of Clanmates with each other. They will do anything to ensure the welfare of their friends. They aren't the fastest at running, but are usually proficient or mediocre in the skill of climbing.

In close combat, RiverClan cats are the most feared among all the Clans because we can hold our enemy down and rake their bellies until they beg for mercy. Our rivals don't stand any chance of winning when the lake fights alongside us.

Swimming and water combat is a unique skill. The techniques for fighting in the water are closely guarded secrets among RiverClan cats, so all training is done out of sight, along the streams that run through the territory.

RiverClan has always been my favorite out of the four original Clans, but I like the Dark Forest.
