ChatBox Suggestions!

Hi, WCF! I have an idea for the ChatBox, when a member on a different computer Types something at the bottom it should say like "Sparkpaw is typing" at the bottom so no one innterupts, I don't know, better to say an idea then keep it inside, tell me what you thing!

Other Ideas:

I like this idea! Sort of like on Gmail or other such chats. But it would be a bit complicated because there have been times where there are 12 members or more on the chatbox, all typing at the same time, so I'm not sure if this site can manage it. If you know what I mean. It would probably make the chatbox lag because of all the work it has to do, tracking IP addresses or whatever. (thank you, I know I sound like a computer geek *bows* )

umm, it wouldnt affect what you are saying, though. I do think it would be nice if videos didn't restart every time someone posts.

I doubt it would help with interruptions. People will see "This person is typing..." but maybe they're trying to say something too, so they type anyway. I agree with Maplestream that it would be complicated to list 12 people typing t a time. It can also make things awkward because if you stop typing but don't say anything, they know you were about to reply but didn't. Some slow types may be shy with the feature, too.

Lunarlight: Scrolling and animations shouldn't start over everytime someone says something. (Sparkpaw's comment: This may not be able to change.)

Hm, Good point Cheese, I never put any of these things into mind, I didn't think about laggig and such.

Just a note guys, you can uncheck auto refresh if you want to watch the videos then refresh and read the chats I don't think the thing about the scrolling/animations is that important because it shouldn't take that long to see/read what is being animated.

I don't think that the Chatbox really needs this feature. It would be laggy and hard to manage if, say, 9 people were logged into the chatbox and more than one was typing at the same time. Like Shamu said, forumotion might not suppor it either.

Well I noticed some members have the issue of the chat 'going up' when someone else posts. Perhaps Dragonclaw could fix this. ^^

Just a tip, if you would like to view a spoiler on the chatbox, it would be best to untick the "Auto Refresh" button

I don't think forumotion supports that "(Username) is typing..." format. And yes, it would clog up the whole chatbox. All of these would need a lot of effort put in by the Tech Team.

Okay, Phantom! This is my first forum so I don't really know the "Do's and Don'ts" Of forumotion. Anyway, what I mean when someone says something in the chat, it scrolls up a little so I can't see what someone wrote and I have to scroll down a bit.

To be truthful, the opposite happens to me on a phone XD

When I scroll up to see previous messages on the chatbox, and someone types in something, the whole thing goes back down

same with me, but those both happen like I'll be on the chat... Someone can decline this.

me too. anyways, I wonder if Dragonclaw is gonna do about this?

Probably nothing, It probably can't be fixed, someone can lock this or whatever you do to these X3

That's not a glitch. It's just auto refresh, and if you un-check the white box beside Log Out, then it won't do that anymore.

What happens to you other guys may be because of certain smileys posted in the Chat.

And also, regarding "User is typing...," this sounds appealing but ultimately it would prove unfeasible because we typically have a huge amount of users in the chatbox. It would not be visually appealing to show 12 usernames are typing.

However, we may develop this feature for our one-on-one chatting (which will be released very shortly!).
And I'd like to note the Tech Team is not hindered by the limitations of our forum host, as we have the tools and expertise to develop beyond them. This is one characteristic that distinguishes WCF as one of the most advanced message boards on the web.

I still have the problem where chat scrolls up a bit whenever someone starts talking. However, it only occurs on Google Chrome and it's hard to predict when/if it will happen again, because it seems to be an on and off effect. I know Dawnstorm had trouble with it recently, though she was also on Chrome and it might just be the browser.

The one on one chat is a great idea to solve PM discussions. For people who can't PM but can chat, it would help them a lot with their private stuff.

Yes, I have had some trouble with the chatbox on Chrome. Every time someone inputs a message on it, it scrolls up and it's especially a problem when it comes to a lot of people on the chat.

For me it's happened to both versions. That's why now I only use Chrome if I am just to post, and then get on firefox for getting on the chatbox.

For me, the one on the homepage does it. I prefer to use that one, so I'm not sure if it occurs on the side chat too or not. It hasn't happened to me for a week or two now. I'm not sure about anyone else o.o
